I've heard it's a good movie; the USCCB was singing its praises. If I had money, I'd go and see it, but I'm broke. I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

I don't know about this one.

I'm highly suspicious of films that push my emotional buttons. This one does just that. It is a film about race relations and class (but more about race).

If anything, as my friend said, it shows you the brokenness of our humanity and how we need something outside of us to save us. In all the trash and carp that the characters went through religion was never mentioned. Only a joke at one part.

See it for yourself. I do not suggest seeing it if you do not like intense movies, especially violent ones (there's a sex scene too). It's R-rated, so that should be enough.

In an intricately (contrived) woven storyline about a few different characters who experience the weight of the world, this film leaves me no answers except telling me how terrible the world is without Christ.

Without Christ, we're as helpless as those characters, just moving along life reacting to whatever situation in which we find ourselves. Unconcscious of Original Sin, we destroy rather than build up.

Can anyone tell me something good about this movie? I think that it's worth seeing by some people, but only once. I am slow to praise the cinematic qualities of it, since I'm suspicious of films that push emotional buttons.

What does anyone else think?

I thought it was great because it makes you think and analyze whats going on around you. Sandra Bulloch if I remember right, did this movie for free and said in fact "its a movie hoping to push buttons" she said when we get too comfortable in life we must still see the reality that is out there. I thought it was a very well made movie. I will def see it again.

Yes, it's true that these terrible race relations happen. I don't live in LA, I live on the East Coast.

Yes, the movie shows us all these terrible things but, then what? What does it leave us after we see how broken we all are? As Christians, we know that Christ fills the emptiness, the blank.

I am hesitant to say it's well-made, because I am not sure when a film pushes emotional buttons just for the sake of pushing them or if it has a point, a "why" for doing it.
