Oh, I'd have to agree, his eyes (deep-set, dark circles) do make him a bit scary-looking at first. This probably helped when he was Prefect of the CDF, ha ha! But since he's become Pope, he just looks precious. He has the sweetest smile. And once you know more about his personality, the scariness falls away.

I like that black-and-white picture of him! And the BEER picture is HILARIOUS!!!

i agree with Jazz4jesus, hugheyforlife, and argent_paladin (and whoever else something like them). Pope Benedict XVI, while i respect and love him because he is the Pope, he still looks a bit sneaky/creepy. i'm not saying he is but he does. it is the eyes and the way he smiles. i'm glad i'm not the only one
It's times like this I really dislike aspects of the media age. I hate to think of how the faithful would have picked apart the appearances past popes.

How many of us spend time noticing what a pontiff is wearing or what he looks like compared to the amount of time we spend reading an encyclical or book written by him? I'm the first to admit that I'm guilty of doing this, and I don't think it's a good thing.

Let's think for a second about all the times we would be so angry at the press for emphasizing how frail and in poor health our John Paul looked.

I have to ask if this kind of observation any more fair, or even necessary to begin with?

God bless.
hehe... I was going to comment on the media age, too. What if Peter were a creepy looking dude? I'll bet Paul was frightening to behold... but I worry about this era of choosing a polished politician and a happy looking pope rather than understanding the ideas they stand for.

we weren't saying anything bad. that we don't love him or even that we think he's going to do a terrible job because we think he's creepy looking. we were just stating a thought we had.

I've seen him many times in person now. I see nothing sneaky about him.

I've been within a foot of the Holy Father (on Palm Sunday this year) and all I saw was an intense German focusing on the Mass.

Just come visit him. :)

I still wanna meet him. How many times can you be closer than conversation distance and look right at someone you wanna meet and still can't!?

I don't think he looks sneaky!

He does, however, look a lot like the Keebler elf...

Ah, whatever. There's nothing sneaky about my Papa. He's cute.
