I just find it hard to believe that Luther would be quoting 2Pet 3:13 and not be also considering 3:14... which is why I figured he was implying the second part.

I don't know about Luther's teaching that much, but I think Romans 5,6,7 cover this topic pretty well.

My point was that I think you're treating Luther (and Lutherans indirectly) unfairly.  Try showing love to your enemies (I hope they're not enemies) and correcting if necessary but not mocking, it doesn't help anything except to make you feel better about yourself by putting others down.

Should I champion a man who claimed to be a Christian while he advocated bigamy (having two wives simultaneously) and polygyny (having more than two wives simultaneously), contradicting the teaching of Christ that man is to have only one spouse, and that divorce and remarriage of either party is not permitted if the marriage is valid?

Should I esteem a man who advised his followers to "sin and sin strongly" and taught that once you believed, you could commit any sin you pleased and not lose your salvation? These pernicious doctrines lead people straight to hell.

The man who is called the "Great Reformer" desecrated the Bible, and still you expect me to admire him? He threw out 7 books and parts of Esther and Daniel from the Old Testament and rejected Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation from the New Testament. He changed the wording of Romans 3:28 to make it fit his new doctrine of Sola Fide, and defended having done so!

His hatred for the Jews later made him a hero to the Nazi's.

Jesus didn't leave us a book -- he left us a Church, "which is the household of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth" (2 Tim 3:15). Luther did his best to destroy that Church, thereby rejecting Christ. "He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me . . ." Luke 10:16.

Luther detested any denomination other than his own and advocated that the Baptists be killed.

Check the man out. I have done so and I am appalled. You're mistaken about my motivation. I don't criticize Luther to build myself up. I just want the myths about Luther the hero to be replaced with the truth.

All of this -- and much more -- is from Luther's own writings.

Luther is not the enemy -- he's dead. The enemy is the lies that are told about the man. These are dangerous lies, making a hero out of a scoundrel, and falsely making the Catholic Church out to be the enemy.

When Fr. Martin used to hear confessions, I wonder if his absolution ended with, "Go forth my son and sin some more!" That might be why he got to be so popular :P
