Ok. On the rug that they brought out to place where Benedict would be announced, as you can see above (kind of) the coat of arms on the rug had JP2's still in it. At the inagural mass, it was not there anymore. If you look at the announcement of JP2, there was nothing on the rug at that time either. So did they make a mistake, and forgot to remove JP2's coat of arms?

I was wondering about that too. I think they made a mistake. It should have been a vacant see symbol rather than JPII's symbol.

I actually don't think it was mistake.

To have the vacant see when we had a pope would be insane. Raymond Arryo stated that they used JP2's because it showed we had a pope, and at a later time, Benedict would choose his coat of arms.

I have to agree. Our see wasn't vacant and they couldn't like rush to make Pope Benedict's coat of arms that fast. So when the next pope comes along I bet he will have Pope Benedict's.

hmmm, I wonder if anyone has a pic of JPII's anouncement so we can compare... does he have JPI's coat of arms on it?

Ok, but the wierd thing is that during the inauguration mass, there was no coat of arms on it. JP2's coat is the white/yellow cross with the M, which is what was on it at the time of Benedict's announcement.

Here is a picture of it from JP2's announcement -

And where that red space is, is where the blue shield with the white cross and M was when Benedict was announced.

I think it was a mistake.
I don't really think it makes much of a difference.
Lol, true enough.

And no, this was John Paul I's -

And if they never put his on, since he wasnt the Pope too long, here is Paul VI's-
hmmm. well that Coat of Arms at JP2's announcement seems like it has to mean something.
I think it was just red because they were going to add his yet. I think they just didnt have time to remove JP2's before Benedict was announced.

Here is the best i can find of the tapestry during the Inaugural mass -

I very distinctly remember as I watched live that before they unfurled the rug the reporter said that we would see the coat of arms of JP2 on it. Interesting.
