BLAZEr
The altar isn't Christ. We may bow to the altar, but we MUST genuflect to Christ in the tabernacle. Pax Christi. What she said . . . symbol of Christ=Altar . . . REALLY TRULY FLESH AND SOUL AND DIVINITY OF CHRIST=Blessed Sacrament in Tabernacle
Katholikos
I used to wonder why Protestants in non-liturgical churches (and that's most of them) don't call the appeal to "accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior" a "pulpit call," 'cause that's usually all there is in the building, the pulpit and the chairs. And often a baptistry. The altar is imaginary. On "Communion Sunday" as we called it in the Calvary Baptist Church, we brought in a table to hold the crackers and grape juice. The "altar call" is unbiblical, as is any kind of "call." This is one of many Protestant inventions. And there's no mention in the Bible of "accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior" and so forth. It made me wonder since we Southern Baptists were supposed to be true "Bible-believers" (meaning that Catholics and others were not ).
Uncle Gus
I don't know about anyone else, but Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and Saviour. :)
Anna
Of course He is. But He came down from heaven for that mission. What Likos is saying, is, "Where does it tell us in the Bible, that we must accept Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior?" Short answer: It doesn't. It says shows how people accepted Jesus (by accepting His teachings) and how they rejected Jesus (by rejecting His teachings.) He said Himself to His Apostles: "He who hears you, hears Me. He who rejects you, rejects Me." The altar call is not biblical and has no historical backing. And simply verbally accepting Jesus into your heart while intellectually rejecting His Church and His Teachings, is akin to giving Him "lip service." "Why do you call me teacher with your mouth, not doing what I say? Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you, saying: 'This people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. And in vain they worship me, teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men...'" Apparently, what Jesus wants isn't just our "acceptance," but our "submission to the authorities He has established, and to the teachings He has handed down to us." Pax Christi. <><
