Guest
wut do u guys think of the music thats out there today, and the message its putting out to the youth, and to anyone for that matter...for instance the rapper nas raps on his latest cd titled "gods son" " i carry the cross, if the virgin mary would of had an abortion i'd still be carried in the chariots by stanpeding horses" i dont like to bring names to the discussion, but this is blantent blasphemy and i feel is a real threat to the millions of listeners that it is exposed to.....give me ur comments on this
Spiritual_Arsonist
Well, what can I say? This is a sign of the times. I am a firm believer in the saying LEX ORANDI, LEX CREDENDI (pray what you believe.) This can be applied to music. We dream about what is going on in our lives. We think about what is going on. We also sing about "important" issues. These songs are an indicator of the state of things. And telling from what we hear, things are not going as hey should be. So the mission of the church continues...

inDEED
It's easy to sit back and criticize motives and lyrics of other musicians...but, we are called to do so much more than that... That is why we've put together this Phatmass compilation... Not only are we trying be witnesses for His Church, but we're also trying to give someone...ANYONE something else to play in their CD player...something that glorifies GOD and ONLY GOD... I threw away all of my "gangsta rap" and secular music that glorifies violence, the degregation of women, and glorification of the almighty dollar and fame...replacing them with Mars Ill, Deepspace5, Playdough and bands such as Dave Matthews, The Ataris, Dashboard Confessional, etc... dUSt
Dave Matthews I'm pretty sure Dave Mathews supports abortion. I remember learning that a while back, and have stopped listening to him ever since.
Undercover
totally agree wit you on this.. while some would argue that Nas has some "positive" lyrics, I would equate it with a sugar coated poison pill. Many are more blatent in what they're about. Other artists, like DMX for example, continue to claim that they are Christians, but also continue to do and say horrible things, so that I don't think anyone takes his faith seriously (and probably they shouldn't, although I don't know his heart). Other artists, like DMX for example, continue to claim that they are Christians, but also continue to do and say horrible things, so that I don't think anyone takes his faith seriously the story about Jesus saying "throw the first stone for those without sin" comes to mind... so much sin in my life comes to mind and blocks me from judging the faith of others... the only difference is theirs is more exposed to the public.. i can only imagine what other people would feel about our faith if our sins and impure thoughts and motives were exposed as well... Good call... you & I don't know the person's heart... all we can do is continue to pray for them. Not sure how correct this info is, but I wuz peeped, that 'Mase' who used to rap wit P.Diddy is now a hard core Christian Preacher! His songs that most people know him for only glorified money, power, & degraded women...but if that is true that he's converted then this proves two things: 1) We should always Accept a Person where they are @ & 2) The Power of Prayer really does work! I ditto maydbyGOD's comment too: "so much sin in my life comes to mind and blocks me from judging the faith of others... the only difference is theirs is more exposed to the public.. i can only imagine what other people would feel about our faith if our sins and impure thoughts and motives were exposed as well..." ...in fact the title track for a CD that I hope one day will be completed, are all about this very topic: "Truth Exposed". Theme being: I'm not a saint, and in my heart I'm no role model; I am just a broken person who needs Christ in their life and need to pray for God to come & save me! My hopes is that my lyrics will touch anyone who can relate & all those still struggling... it's definately all about the sinner's prayer... which unfortunately I find myself there all thee time! ~Mr.G
MC Just
I think it takes a wolf to beat a wolf, I think of myself as a Sheep in wolf's clothes. I'm church militant in a constant battle, yeah i'm a sinner but I am striving to be perfect like the Father and one day I will. I'm not the judge no, but I will not hesitate in defeding the faith and protesting blasphemy. Most of the Secular hip-hop is blasphemy therefore I will not be silenced. MC Just
If my Attitude is wrong, God will judge me on that. All I know is I pray for those blasphemers all the time and I really hope they see the light one day.
