I am leading a small group of young people to World Youth Day in Cologne in August. We have a few slots still available (we ideally would like 12 people total). Here is the general itinerary:

August 4: Meet in London and fly to Krakow
August 8: Fly to Rome
August 11: Fly to Munich or Berlin for Encounters in Diocese
August 15: Cologne WYD begins
August 21: Papal mass with Benedict and fly to London then fly home

This will all cost about $600, which includes airfare in Europe, lodging in Krakow, Rome and Germany, food for the week in Germany, backpack, books by Benedict and John Paul II. It doesn't include airfare to London, or food in Rome or Krakow or souvenirs, passport fees, etc.

Right now, all the participants are from Northern California. But, since we are not formally beginning until we get to London, anyone in the world is invited.

IMPORTANT: You must be over 18 but under 30 to go in our group. You must also be willing (and joyful) about going to daily mass. We will be visiting Auschwitz (where St. Maximillian Kolbe was martyred), Lagiewniki (where the Divine Mercy Church is and where St. Maria Faustyna lived), Wadowice (the home town of John Paul the Great), St. Peters, the Catacombs, the Vatican Museums and possibly the home town of Pope Benedict!

Let me know by personal message. I will need to know very soon if you can go.

I got an invite from the Legion to join them (I will be entering as a Novice in two years)

However, funds won't allow me to go, as much as though I'd like to go.

God Conquers

Can I suggest Essen for Days in the Diocese? The Youth Arise International Festival is there... and it is quite excellent.

I already applied to 1. Munich 2. Berlin 3. Regensburg

I think we will be coming by bus from Krakow, so I wanted something near the Eastern border. Plus Munich is the home diocese of Pope Benedict and Berlin is a fascinating city. And Regensberg is the city of St. Albert Magnus, teacher of Thomas Aquinas.

Thy Geekdom Come

I wish I had that kind of money. Maybe if this Catholic journalism thing pans out, the paper will send me there. :D

...not likely, though...

if I wasn't getting back from my Caribbean cruise on the 7th, I totally would've gone (already been to Poland and Rome).. but I missed Germany while I was abroad because I had to fly back to the States as my Grandfather was dying ( :( )

that sounds like a GREAT trip... and unbelievably inexpensive if you compare to trying to do all that on your own!

so seriously... for those that are reading this-- find a friend and sign up because that is a once in a lifetime opportunity at an AMAZING price!

daugher-of-Mary

are you suurreee you don't want to open it up to the under 18 crowd? I'll be 17.5 by WYD and that is insanely cheap
