luciana
In the beginning , it is probably helpfult to have some structure when at adoration. I pray the rosary or chaplet or use one of those little booklets meant for adoration. There's agood one by Fr. Benedic Groeschel. some adoration chapels, churches will ahve them available. As I've become better at not letting my mind wander, or can use the wandering to become a prayer, I just sit and pray freely, just listening, happy to be there w/ the Lord. Reading the bible witha study guide can be helpful. I like the ones by Ignatius Press. (they only have ones for some of the New Testamant so far, but they have one for each of the Gospels) Sometimes I just pick a passage I'm familiar with and re-read it slowly, and pray. One book that I really like is the classic, THe Imitation of Christ. It has short little chapters and focuses on developing virtue, growing closer to Christ. it was written centuries ago for those in the Religious life, but this simple little book is applicable to all. Mateo el Feo
There is a free translation of Introduction to the Devout Life available here. Though the translator removed the references to Philothea!
I laughed when I first saw your user name, because I just began reading Introduction to the Devout Life a couple weeks ago...my copy preserves the use of Philothea! The Lover of God. Must be Divine Providence. Anyway, this is a life-changing book! For those who haven't read it, find a copy today!
guardsman
It's particularly nice to read the Scriptures during Eucharistic adoration, in the Presence of the Divine Author.
It's OK to READ during Eucharistic Adoration? I did not know that.

franciscan13
i agree with all the tips but ones that can not be streesed enough are eucharistic adoration and mass. another good book is "the how to book of the mass" very simple straight forward history of why we do what we do. it helped me get more out of going to mass. yes you can read at adoration, read, pray, or sometimes just be there. its just time to spend with Jesus in the most wonderful gift he gave us.
