M.SIGGA
Has anyone heard of /seen this petition? What do you all think? Each name links the politician to what he or she supported that was against the Church's teaching. Do you think JP2 would consider doing this? I was shocked by some of the names, but I wasn't surprised that Ted Kennedy was first !!! http://www.cathfam.org/cfexcom/Excom.html Edited November 6, 2003 by M.SIGGA

Good Friday
I won't sign. The Pope already knows who these politicians are, of that there can be little doubt. He has already chosen, in his wisdom, not to excommunicate them. I trust in the Holy Father's wisdom in this matter, and I will not urge him to take action he is obviously not inclined to take at this time. In his own time and in God's own time, these politicians will be dealt with in his own way and in God's own way. We need not try to influence him one way or another. But that's just my opinion and my reasoning for not signing it. If you want to, feel free.
BLAZEr
Just so we all know . . . excommunication is a juridical action taken by the competent authority . . . in most cases this is the Diocesan Bishop . . . I think JP2 has given plenty of hints that Bishops need to start acting like the Guardians of Truth and start busting some heads . . . but they still have not . . . mediocraty is rampant . . . By the way, a Cardinal in the Vatican was visiting our office once (at pro-life group I worked for) and we asked him what we could do about Pro-abort Catholics and he said "Isn't there a name for that here in America? Elections or something?" . . . he was teasing us . . . but his point as he elaborated was loud and clear . . . for the good of their souls we need to vote their butts out of office . . . so that's we try to do at my (former pro-life employer) . . . we try to educate Catholics about their political responsibility and their duty to vote Pro-Life . . . God Help us!! We need more people working for this type of education . . .
Deeds
I think this petition is a bad idea. The Pope should decide who to excommunicate and it's not for us to try to influence that, no matter how strongly a person's politics go against the Catholic faith. BLAZEr
I should have been even more clear . . . a person Excommunicates themself . . . the Church only ratifies their decision . . . so to speak . . .
cmotherofpirl
There is nothing wrong with trying to influence a person but... It is up to the individual Bishops to excommunicate people, not the Pope. This will not happen, because it will just make people cause' celebs and martyrs for the liberal end of the Church. THey love being victims, and portraying themselves as heroes against the "mean" hierarchy hiding in Rome. You need to pray for and tell your Bishop to stand up for the teachings of the Church. Echo the teachings of the Holy Father. "BE NOT AFRAID".

Amen. dUSt I am begging you to delete my account, because whatever is left of my Catholicity WILL NOT survive posting on this site, and I haven't the discipline to just not post.
