ironmonk
Reply: "You're just being moralophobic." or "You're just being Christophobic." This should help point out to anyone with half a mind of how ridiculous the term 'homophobic' really is. geetarplayer
There's a difference between being homophobic and being moral. The literal meaning of homophobic is "afraid of homosexuals". Surely there are some homophobes out there who are completely devoid of morals as well. Morals don't make someone homophobic. Likewise, homophobia doesn't make someone moral. I consider myself a moral person and I am not afraid of or embarassed by homosexual people. Ignorance is the real cause of homophobia. -Mark
Faithful heart
I think what ironmonk is trying to say (correct me if I am wrong) is it seems in todays society if you are against homosexuality then YOU are the one who is wrong or has a problem. It is all over t.v, radio, any media that when someone stands up for their belief that this is wrong they are called a homophobe. My stance on this is that it is wrong. If someone is a homosexual then fine, I will not try to hurt that person in any way. What I will not do is be proud of them or think their lifestyle is fine and dandy. EcceNovaFacioOmni
I am not a homophobe. I am not against gay people, they are perfectly fine. I believe what the Catechism says though, that gays are called to chastity: CATECHISM: 2359: Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection. geetarplayer
Definately. Hate the sin, not the sinner. But it's true how homosexuality has become such a 'norm'. The percentage of people who are actually gay probably hasn't gotten all that bigger than it has been in centuries past. -Mark
Good Friday
I've been called a homophobe. I find it amusing for reasons that would be obvious to most of you...
kdewolf2
Nobody ever really defines 'homophobia' very clearly. Apparently, it would be an irrational and neurotic fear of homosexuals in the same way that some people are afraid of spiders (arachnophobia), small, confined spaces (claustrophobia), water (hydrophobia), or crowded places (agoraphobia). Now, all these phobias are quite clear and well-known. People do have these fears. However, I have not met one person in my whole life that could really be called 'homophobic' in the same way that others could be called 'claustrophobic.' I have met plenty of people who dislike and even hate homosexuals, who call them all kinds of names and in general just treat them like the scum of the earth, which is really unjustified in view of everything that Jesus Christ taught us about love, mercy, and forgiveness. However, it is not clear to me that these people "fear" homosexuals. Most likely, they are just very insecure people who try to build up their own self-esteem by cruelty toward others. When the term is applied to people who neither hate nor fear homosexuals, but simply express the opinion that the homosexual lifestyle is 'gravely disordered,' 'unnatural,' 'perverted,' or otherwise 'sinful,' I lose all confidence in the term altogether. It strikes me as a way of putting down conservative Christians and others who disagree with their lifestyle choices, so that they do not have to face criticism. They re-direct all criticism back on to the person who voiced the opinion, and call his or her motives into question, instead of reflecting on the moral value of their own decisions. Hence, I consider the term 'homophobia' as having no actual, intelligible content. It should be considered, rather, an expression of homosexuals' frustration that their lifestyle choices are not fully accepted by everyone they meet, and that some people have the audacity to actually tell them they disagree with them. I'd say, "Grow up. That's life."

(sorry I didn't quote this, the above is from thedude) This is what I agree with, the only thing I am scared for is their souls. I also agree "Hate the sinner not the sin" I just won't let anyone or anything bully me into thinking that acting on these urges is the "Norm". I do not want to judge anyone, heaven knows I am far from perfect, God bless you all.

That was my point. Geetarplayer, people who have seen me post on this subject numerous times know, but I am a very big believer in hate the sin, love the sinner. I'm just tired of people calling me and others a homophobe when we say it's wrong. That sums up my point to this post. If you go to search, and look for my screenname and "ssa", you'll get the full gist of my meaning. notbilln
Someone once called my very straight friend homophobic once. He turned to the guy and landed a big wet kiss on him. Then said "I'm not afraid of you, I just don't like your aftershave." By far, the funniest responce to that accusation I've ever seen. Then he explained that he wasn't afraid of theives, but he still thought that stealing was wrong. Edited November 6, 2003 by notbilln
