my home parish is getting the 'worship space' built (we were really small) and they used an architect who made it the standard crud. The tabernacle is in the bell tower, not the sanctuary. So we still don't need to genuflect...I hate that parish. I wish I was the 'pastoral coordinator' because I know more about being Catholic than she does.
The architect who designed that "standard" is Catholic

The architect has a certification from The Institute for Liturgical Consulting (sponsored by the Catholic Theological Union at Chicago and by the Office for Divine Worship and Liturgy Training Publications of the Archdiocese of Chicago).

And the Bell Tower (which, sadly, has no bell) is a notable architectural feature which houses the reservation chapel allowing the individual or small group to participate in adoration at any hour the church is open . . . a immense improvement over the present arrangement

and to respond to another comment:
Quoting MichaelFilo:
So I genefulect to the altar. It is a holy place, albeit not Jesus, but it's sad when I walk in and have nothing to bow to, so I bow to table of God.

genuflect or bow? bowing to the altar is common in the GIRM, as part of the entrance procession, part of the lector's approach to the ambo . . . etc

if the tabernacle is not on the altar (where admittedly it has been for hundreds of years), then should not the respect be directed in the direction toward where Jesus is . . . not where we might wish he was?

So why don't you? If you want something done, the best thing is to just do it. I wanted something done about our Youth Ministry peogram, so I took the class and am working with our youth minister now.

There's a book called "Ugly as Sin" that addresses many of the topics mentioned in this thread. I wanted to buy it when I saw it in the LCBS (local Catholic book store). I haven't seen it there since....and it looked like an interesting book! Just skimming through it, they had some ugly pictures of worship spaces.
