Donna
Undercover, please stay and talk. I know it can be overwhelming."Just say whoa" (not "no"). Folks are zealous here. Welcome! P.S. The Precious Blood of Jesus came from the matter of Mary's body. P.P.S. The good Father on EWTN also said that in order to get his attention, God had to break his neck. Katholikos
Undercover, It's important to remember that the Catholic Church didn't come from the Bible. (I've written this so many times.) Rather, the Bible came from the Catholic Church. Conversely, all 33,820 (at last count in 2001) Protestant denominations are based on one or another interpretation of the same Bible. The Catholic Church didn't read the Gospel of John and then decide how to interpret it. St. John taught the Church orally for 60 some years before he wrote his Gospel c. 100 A.D. Catholic doctrine is based on the teaching of the Apostles, not on one of many possible interpretations of the Bible. The oldest writing in the NT is Thessalonians -- written c. 52 A.D. The Church was born in 33 A.D. at Pentecost. The Catholic (Universal) Church was already spread out over the entire Greek-speaking, Mediterranean world before the first word of the NT was written. It took about 100 years for the NT to be written and 400 years to canonize it and put it together between the covers of one book. The earliest wriitng in the NT concerning the Eucharist is 1 Corinthians 11. What's "symbolic" about St. Paul's writing? Or St. John's, written almost half a century later? Hang around. We're willing to teach you if you're willing to learn. We don't want to convert you. Conversion is God's job, not ours. But we'd like you to know what Catholics believe, and why. The Catholic Church is as old as Christianity. Haven't you always wondered about Catholics and their ancient Church? Here's your chance to talk to us -- up close and personal -- and get your Qs answered. And some of us used to be Protestants (like me, for example). Peace be to you and to all, JMJ Katholikos

Jake Huether
In response to Undercover's request to scripturally defend Mary's "status" I wanted to add one more thing, that I didn't see in this thread. If you have read the Bible you will have inevitably come accross the fact that it is the king's mother who is the Queen. Take for instance King Soloman. His mother was the queen. If this is the case... And Jesus is the King of kings, then who is the Queen? Mary!
Laudate_Dominum
bumped, in light of Brother Adam's recent post.
IcePrincessKRS
Thanks for the bump LD! This was a great reminder for me to begin preparations to renew my Consecration--which starts (for me) tomorrow. :)
IcePrincessKRS
This is just as good a place as any to post this I guess... I will be renewing my Consecration again this year (I have done it since I was about 14), but my husband agreed to do it with me this year. :D I'm really excited about it. Laudate_Dominum
I should do that too. I haven't solemnly renewed it in a while. Thanks IcePrincess!
IcePrincessKRS
I haven't always been good about doing the preparation every year, but I do always renew the Consecration. This year I have extra motivation to go through all the steps since Matt will be doing it with me. You're from Steubenville, right, LD? Do you know of any parishes that will be doing the Consecration? I remember when I first did mine (in NY) there was a group in our parish and we all did the final consecration prayer together in the chapel at Church. Since then I've done it privately, but if there were a parish around here that was doing it I think it would be cool to do it that way with Matt. I dunno if he'd be up for it, though. lol (Usually we go to St. Peter's, but the past couple Sundays, due to other things going on, we have't been to Mass there so I'm not sure if they are or not.)
