Shisha AKA narghile AKA hookah AKA hubbly-bubbly is the only way to smoke. It is cool and fruity and very social. Highly recommended.

As far as sinfulness...
I am not convinced that smoking a single cigarette causes sufficent permanent damage for it to be intrinsically immoral. While it is true that we have an obligation to take care of our bodies and to not damage it, it is also true that incidental damage is inevitable and sometimes our actions have such unintended consequences. Tanning, for example, increases your chances of skin cancer greatly. Is it a sin to tan? Well, if so, is it a sin to choose not to wear a hat on a sunny day? Lifting weights actually causes microscopic damage to the muscles, which the body repairs, leading to stronger, larger muscles. Is it immoral to damage ones body for a good effect? What about tattoos or piercings? That is "damage", is it not? When you fly you are exposing yourself to 100x more cosmic rays than normal and increasing your chances of dying a catastrophic death, all to get somewhere faster. Is this a legitimate reason to risk your life?

All of these are questions of prudence. I think in this case, moderation is the rule. But moderation when it comes to tobbacco is very, very little because a little goes a long way. I see nothing wrong with a cigar a month or a sheesha a month. Perhaps new scientific data will prove me wrong.

I had one of those small back cigars with my friends and it tasted like carp... and I just coughed and coughed.... I'll reserve the smoking to you guys. However, being Arabic, it maybe good to learn how to smoke that thing with the pipe and it's flavored.. whatever it is. They have somke shops for those here now. My biggest problem with smoking is the addicition. It's not sinful, but gotta watch where you go with that. Same for alcohol, I like the taste, but I keep away for the sake of not picking up an addiction; still drink, just not often. Has anyone here had Cuban cigars? There is quite alot of hype about them... I know one of my teachers was going to get some illegaly from one of his student's (from her parents through her). He seems like an alright guy, Catholic, uber-conservative, could use more time on his Faith, but he seems alright.

God bless,
Mikey

Yeah, when I was in Europe last semester I had a couple of Cuban cigars. Very nice. :) In fact, there's a shop in Rome where you can buy Cuban cigars, and if you tell the clerk that you're from America, he'll give you a different sleeve to put the cigar in that omits the fact that the cigar is from Cuba (so you can bring it back to the States). So cool... ;)

yeah i just got back from a semester over seas and they sell cubans over there.

a good dominican and a good cuban are hard to tell appart. for an experienced smoker, so i've been told, cubans have the potential to be the stronger of the two because of it's 'creamyness and dense smoke'. I'm not at that point where i can tell the difference, so a good dominican is fine by me!

funny story...
i went to a smoke shop by my school in Dallas and they had a box of cigars which read, "For experienced smoker only! Smoke sitting down!"

we made sure to keep our distance!!! :)

Oh, for you Pipe smokers, what's your favorite tobacco?

So far mine has been Brigham's Own

Another good one from GKC:

No one has even begun to understand comradeship who does not accept with it a certain hearty eagerness in eating, drinking, or smoking... It is a clamorous confession of the weakness of all flesh. No man must be superior to the things that are common to men.
Yes, you're right about that, priests can be wrong, but we are specifically told by the church not to destroy our bodies, which are temples of the Holy Spirit, and with all the new science out about smoking, it can't possibly be beneficial. Just my thoughts.
Many have used that same argument about tattoos as well. But that is another topic for another time that has already been beat to death on this forum. As for smoking, I like to smoke a good cigar about once a week. I think someone should have told George Burns that cigars were bad for his health. He lived to be around a 100 if I remember correctly.

side note...

the part of scripture that specifically says you can't tattoo your body is followed by a commandment that you must never cut the hair on the sides of your head...

as far as pipe tobacco goes...
i go to a smoke shop by my school in Dallas called Up in Smoke, and they have a whole assortment of house tobacco. my favorite blend is called "free hand".
