Got A Problem?!

If someone has a problem with the way a brother or sister has phrased something or with the "tone" of a post.... You should send a message to that person, not post it on the board.

St. Matt 18:15 "If your brother sins (against you), go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother.

On the contrary, I believe a public offence permits a public response. Such is the risk taken when one makes public commentary.

I'm not at all sure the Bible blurb chosen supports private response to public insult.

oh gee, you're both right....

But if it isn't a major offense that needs public correction, and a private message would suffice, I say that's the way to go.

It's not a public offense if one or two people see something "uncharitable" in the tone. Typically the problem is with their perception, not the reality of the statement or the intention of the writer.

Such as some here who have said they see my posts as uncharitable... when they are not unchariable, the problem lies in their perception of my writings.

This is for all the people who cry uncharitable when the truth is being spoken.

I know what you mean; I was warned to be careful not to judge.

But I truly wasn't judging anyone.

So I can see the value of privately admonishing someone, so you don't lead others to think, "oh yeah, Anna...judgemental."

But, I also publicly defended my positon, so I guess others can decide for themselves.

Its really hard on the internet to always be sure what we are saying/doing/or coming across as.

Basically, I assume that we are all operating with good faith, and if something truly sounds out of whack, then maybe pubically saying something isn't bad. You're just trying to clear things up for everyone.

But, if its getting personal, taking it to PM is a good idea.

Those who cry "stop being uncharitable" publically are being hypocrites by doing so.

It is uncharitable to point out publically to someone that one may feel that they are being uncharitable. If someone thinks someone might sound uncharitable, then pm them.

I think we need to do both.

We need to explain our positions the person understands and any visitor who shows up understands as well.

Sometimes I'll be here and there are 15-20 guests reading our posts.

Im with monk. If you got beef try to squash it privatly as not to scare away possible converts with bickering. But if that dont work then the rest of the verse says take it to the church,which in fact could be phatmass since really we are gathered here in his name.

The next verse is speaking of the hierarchy, i.e. the Shepards, not the Sheep. Those with authority to teach.

The Church can mean the sheep (laymen) but to settle a dispute, the Church (Ekklesia) is the Bishops, Priests, Deacons...

If someone has an issue with "tone" of a post, then I think it should be kept private because the issue is with that person's perception.

If someone is preaching false doctrine on the board, it's another matter. Board correction is needed.
