I had to make a major decision today

Today I had to make a decision. It comes at the time of the Terri Shiavo case. Today I gave a speach about Terri and how I'm against Euthanasia. Never did I know that I would be faced wtih the same type of case later today.

Man's best friend, my dog, who is a cocker spaniel-colie, (really adorable) would be the focul point of my evening.

On March 11th, she tangled her leg over in an out door tie chain. She's an outdoor dog. We took her to the vet that Monday, and she received medication since it was infected but not broken.

Sunday the dog started to chew her leg that was infected, so the bone became exposed. This would lead to another infection. At the vet's office today we were told we could either be referred to the best vet clinic in WI or put the dog down.

This is my beloved pet, my dog, who is five years old. Of course putting her down would be cheaper than amputating the leg through surgery. I told my mother I didn't believe in euthanisizing animals and that we should amputate the leg. My mother decided to go along with my decison.

Thursday or Friday we will be getting the dog home, and she will now become a permanent indoor rather than previously outdoor. She will have Three Legs, two front and one right leg. The doctor stated she will not even notice her leg is gone except when she squats to pee.

God be with Scruffy as she will have her surgery tomorrow.

Peace of Christ Always,

Eddie Lee

Physical limitations cannot come between you and love for your pet, and it never should. Prayers for you, and for the doctor who will be performing the surgery. And Prayers that it all turns out well.

Euthenasia of animals is not a bad thing (they lack a rational soul), though it might not be the only option. Either way I will pray for you

Well, she's doing quite fine. She isn't suppose to run, but she wants to run. And jumped up hte steps leading into our house. So she is going to do just fine with three legs.

Ash Wednesday

As theotekos pointed out, putting a pet to sleep generally isn't morally objectionable, but I think you did the right thing. Your dog is still fairly young, and even with just three legs it sounds like there's still a lotta dog left in her! :)

she isn't suppose to walk a lot, but she wanted to keep walking this morning, so she will be a great dog with three legs!
