Do you play the piano?

Do you play the piano, and if you do, how long have you been taking lessons/playing?

I've been playing the piano for nine years, and I know how to practice, and what I should be doing, but I just don't do it!! I get really motivated to practice during the day, but when it actually comes down to sitting down and doing it I'm the master of excuses. I know I have a lot of potential if I would just do what I'm supossed to.

So what I'm asking for is.... When do you practice and how do you motivate yourself to do it?

This is my 9th year playing piano as well. Last year I was at a boarding school so I didn't take lessons. This year I'm back to lessons and I'm taking my grade 6 piano exam, though I am playing grades 6, 7, and 8 pieces.

What don't you get exactly? I might be able to help you. :)

Well, I just need to practice more, which I guess comes down to me...

How much do you practice, and when? Do you schedule time, or do you just wing it?

I guess I'm just searching for ideas, motivation, etc.

Maybe I should just pray about it....

I love the piano, but I find it extremely hard to get myself to practice like I should

I also love the piano...but umm..my teacher thinks I'm pretty good...so I don't really worry about practicing. However, please don't follow my example.

I think practicing for about 1 hour a day is really good, also, I think that doing it..hmm...in the evening is nice. Not late though, or you might give yourself the excuse that it's late and you can't play.

If you're feeling bored, go play the piano. If you have nothing better to do and you need a break (of whatever you're doing) go play the piano.

I find it very soothing, and it does take will power to go practice.

9th year of lessons for me...

5th of state and local competing.

i motivate myself to practice by always looking at what can come out of the practice---a beautiful peace that everyone drools over.

I've been playing for about three years. I kind of taught myself. As a result, I play piano a little differently than most people.

I guess the way you're supposed to do it is play the chord with your left hand and the melody with your right. Anyway, I use my left hand to play just the bass, and with my right hand I play both the chord and the melody. It's difficult but it works for me.

As far as practicing... I just play a lot. That's how I practice.

I've been playing for about a year. I too make excuses when I think I should practice and I usually end up just practicing for the 15 minutes before I have to leave for my lesson.

hey, whatever works. songs can be played in so many different ways... its really up to you how you want to play it.
