Paphnutius
Has anyone thought about talking about the book of James with these people? That is why James caused Luther so many problems. It threw a wrench into his whole works. If they want to spout about relying on scripture, then why did Luther want to take a book out? Because it disproved sola fides. I am sure we all know James 2:12-17. I grew up around a lot of Baptists, I am sorry but most fo them are awfully closed on even thinking about the concept of faith and works. I would recommend just dropping the discussion with them. If they are going to ignore James, no amount of biblical quoting will help you. We were given a canon for a reason: because no one book is exhaustive of the faith. Edited March 15, 2005 by Paphnutius

Norseman82
I found it ironic that there is an ad for a Catholic vocations discernment organization on a Baptist website! MichaelFilo
Good to see Ironmonk... and Sirach is probably an Eastern Orthodox guy. Or a hiding Catholic; but I'm inclined to say Eastern Orthodox. God bless, Mikey

"His" profile states that he's Christian, and if you want to get technical, Catholics were first called Christian before they were called Catholic. "He's" never stated that he wasn't Catholic. Your servant in Christ, ironmonk

MichaelFilo
You know, I assume everyone is a he unless proven otherwise. When referencing to people who I don't know the sex of, I assume a masculine pronoun. Its the traditional practice in English, although as my English book would proclaim, it is no longer the practice of contemparary English and can be found offensive. Whatever the case maybe, I'm a man of traditons, and am slow to part from them. God bless, Mikey
