Any one else think Hell would be cold? I think I would fear the freezing blizzard of Hell more then the fires after this winter....

According to Dante in the Inferno , the center of hell (reserved for Satan and the most serious of sinners) is freezing cold. They are frozen in ice.

True. They are forzen in the ice proportionate to the gravity of their sin. Hell by some has been described as a frozen tear drop. one that is never allowed to fall.

For those talking about people that are not devout Catholics we must remember as earlier mentioned, that the Church recongizes means of salvation for those that are not in complete unity with the Church. One such example is bastism by desire, there are others. It is just that the Catholic has access to the full means of salvation, namely the sacraments.

Melchisedec was on to something about hell making people think. St. Ignatius's meditations were mainly on the pains of hell. It has been used in history to start conversion through imperfect contrition (fearing going to hell so one turns to God). Then they work towards perfect contrition (loving God for who He is and so one turns away from sin out of love of God).

We as Christians are called to keep death ever before our eyes. This does not mean thinking about how many or who is going to hell. That is left to God's justice and mercy. All that we can do is pray for God's mecy.

For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world!

hmmm . . . on a slightly more serious note, doesn't Revelation say that the dragon swept 1/3 of the stars from the sky? i've always kindof thought that implied that about 1/3 of angels became demons . . . and it seems logical to assume that the number of people going to hell could be proportianate. (this is idle speculation of course . . . but it seems to make some sense to me.)

Peace,
Joe :)

didnt Our Lady of Fatima show the girls a picture of leaves falling into Hell then She said "the leaves represent souls going to hell due to impure acts" or something like that. Thats wat a Priest said once
