Diocese of Ft. Wayne-South Bend has TWO Cathedrals . . . the one in South Bend is the Co-Cathedral and it's ugly, so I won't waste your time with the picture, but the one in Ft. Wayne, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is pretty cool:

Ok I can't get my pic on here...b/c I can't upload that kind of file, but I'm representing DIOCESE OF SAINT PETERSBURG, FLORIDA!! lol !My favorite place on earth! The Basillica at Notre Dame. With 7 chapels inside the basillica, 2 tabernacles (One made out of pure gold and it stands about 8-9 feet high, well maybe taller!), it has a floor to ceiling high organ, 10 ceiling murals, 5 windows dedicated to saints, and the 13 windows for the stations of the cross. And it has a crypt underneath it. It's the best place on earth, and it's the Vatican in the US! To see my diocese picture, go to www.cathedralofstjude.org, and to see the Basillica at Notre Dame, go to http://www.nd.edu/~bshweb/tour/onlinetour....html.!!! :D

I love the Basilica, its real names is the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. It is a beautiful church . . . there is only one tabernacle (unless you're counting the one in the Crypt, but that's a separate church) and that Gold Tabernacle is not made of real gold. Still, it's the awesomest tabernacle I've ever seen. And the Basilica of the Sacred heart has more murals than 10 . . and it has something like 42 stained glass windows of which 30 or so have 4 saints in each one . . . The Stations are Statues and their amesome . . . and God Help Us All if Notre Dame ever becomes the "Vatican of the US!!!!

Well . . . theres more but look!!!

Te main altar was purchased by Rev. Edward Sorin, C.S.C., from a firm in Paris whose director promised an altar "flowing with gold." Before arriving at Notre Dame, the altar was displayed at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition in 1876 where it won a first for design (To see a picture of this altar at the 1876 Centenial Exposition, click here).

The French flamboyant Gothic style corresponds to the style imitated in the stained glass windows. A number of slender columns sustain the city of Jerusalem tabernacle which is crowned with the Lamb of God holding the cross. Its doors are decorated with plates bearing the names of the 12 tribes of Israel. Each of the 12 gates is guarded by an angel; 12 foundations, each bearing the name of one of the apostles, support the wall.

Beneath the altar are the relics of Saint Marcellus, a third century centurion, beheaded for refusing to serve in the Roman army. In the altar stone are relics of Saints Stephen and Sebastian as well as other martyrs of that period.

And This is one of the Windows, Our Lady of Victory!

The Ceiling right over the Altar!

Oh there is so much more to the Basilica, and I quite honestly fell in love with the Sacred Heart of Jesus there! The Liturgies are all showy and "inclusive", but the Church, awww the Glorious Church!!!

hey, yes there is 2 tabernacles. I was just there and there's the main one and then if you look past it, there's a much smaller one. Yes real gold is what they said it was made of. but we don't need REAL gold to have a beautiful Basillica!

Dude, you're talking about the Church I went to mass in every day for 3 years while I was a student . . . there is only ONE tabernacle . . . You're referring to the Lady Altar which is used noe for Eucharistic Adoratcion. It's not really a tabernacle, because the Blessed Sacrament isn't reserved in it.

Well I never been in it.

I'm within the Diocese of Richmond.

I live right down the street from it; I go to VCU (which, interestingly enough, is essentially it's own city. It funds itself, it polices itself, and it builds itself.)

I live about an hour and a half SOUTH of Richmond. Near the VA/NC border.
