Micheal5403
I was confirmed as a freshman but I was in a class with eighth graders. I don't think that I was ready, but I was confirmed anyway. One of the reasons was my conformation class. It was so boring and useless that I wanted to be confirmed so I wouldn't have to go through those class ever again. It kinda makes me sad, (especially when I think of all the other new kids receiving confirmation) but it doesn't matter now. I will just continue to try to grow in my faith on my own. FutureSoror
I think, though, that Confirmation isn't so much about being prepared to make an informed decision about accepting the Catholic faith (as some seem to think) as it is recieving the graces necessary to keep it as an adolescent in this culture. Micheal5403
Oh yea, I forgot to say I don't think that the age or grade of a person receiving conformation should matter. Receiving conformation should be based on how serious a person is and how prepared they are for receiving conformation.
FutureSoror
I mean, I deffinetly think that a person should be prepared and realize what they are recieving, but I think that sooner is better than later in any case.
Micheal5403
They need to know the reason why they are receiving the sacrament and what graces it gives.
FutureSoror
We need the graces! Of course, the education has to take place, but I wish it would happen sooner for most people. They can understand it, if it would be taught properly, I think. Edited February 27, 2005 by FutureSoror
Micheal5403
I understand your point, and we definitely do need the grace. sorry I didn't see your other post.

Micheal5403
Alright, but I still think the kids receiving conformation should be choosing to receive it for the grace unlike some whom I have talked to who receive comformation because their parents make them. *teen4Christ*
in my old parish in St.louis the kids made it in 8th grade no matter what...and I know that most of my "friends" are not ready for it and it just makes me so sad that they really dont understand what they are doing... jiyoung
i was in 8th grade. it was entirely soon, i think. i was very interested in the intellectual side but for me it was just more facts to memorize. i'm nerdy okay. the classes weren't too bad, but we were too young. few people really cared. it wasn't until a year or two later that i actually started caring about my faith. it really should be when you're spiritually ready, rather than a set age. and perhaps there should be a pre-confirmation class, or maybe not as much class as a prayer group or something. i don't like this whole forcing people into it thing.
