Guantanamo Bay

This subject should not be a source of controversy.
Because the abuses are very well documented.

So even though, if someone has voted for Bush,
he or she should be for what is right, and
disapprove of what is going on in Guantanamo Bay.
It is not unpatriotic to fight for what is right.
Actually, we always do the US, and the world a better service by fighting
for what is right. :)
That's why I started this thread, by saying that
this should be not be a controversy.
If we tend to high morals, as I believe we do,
than we can agree that what is going in Guantanamo is wrong.

If you are not familiar with the issue,
check for Amnesty International Report:

Amnesty - in case you are not familiar with it -
is a great organization that fights for Human Rights
everywhere it is attacked: Tibet, Vietnam, Sudan,
you name it....

They have more information here:
http://www.amnestyusa.org/waronterror/guantanamo/

What Amnesty is demanding:
- The US government end the legal limbo of all detainees
- All those held are charged and given fair trials or released
- They are granted full access to lawyers and families
- They are treated humanely and granted access to their rights
- Their families are kept informed of their legal status and well-being

Which is very reasonable, fair and right.

What is refreshing is the news we got today from the World Council of Churches.
(Check the link)

The Churches are speaking out for what is right instead of keeping silent.
It is good for christians to speak out against human rights abuses.
Despite our differences we can be united in fighting for what is right.

We must proclaim that torture is never an option.

"No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability, or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture."
UN Convention against torture
(http://www.hrweb.org/legal/cat.html) (http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/91.htm)

Let's stand up for what is right.

I voted for Bush twice and though against the war, once it was begun loyally was behind our president. I used to work with AI.

I think that their demands are very reasonable. Some have been held without charges for three years and that is completely unacceptable. They should be charged or released.

However, AI and WCC are not unbiased institutions and have axes to grind against the administration. AI for instance, was virtually silent concerning the many human rights abuses commited by Saddam and co. Still, though I dislike the organizatyions, in this instance, they are correct.

"Safe abortion" is an oxymoron.
Abortion always kills an innocent human life, and often physically and/or emotionally harms the mother.
