Jesus was Black?

It's obvious He was black: He liked Gospel, called everyone "Brother" and got stitched up for a crime He didn't commit!

On second thoughts, I'll get me coat...

Yours in Christ

Matt

what the pope was saying is that in His Body (The Church) which includes Africans, Jesus is African. Just as in His Body He is white, Asian, etc. Whatever a member of His Body is, so too is He.
How he physically appeared isn't relevant to the larger fact that we are all in the Church.

I wouldn't say black, but most likely of middle eastern persuation. He would have looked like the people who lived in that region back than and still today. Its interesting go around the world and see the varying images of jesus, including the black jesus. Im pretty positive he didnt have blue eyes though, but who knows.

cultures have adapted Jesus to look like them throughout time. If you find some Hebrews and look at their depictions He will probably look like them. Trouble is finding Hebrews. ;)
Being able to see Jesus as one of us reinforces the idea that He died for our sins, and it also reinforces the idea that we are in His Body and there are different parts of the Body.

He was a Jew so he most likely looked middle eastern.

Although, the Jews of today may not be indicative of the Jews of Christ's time, as their looks may have changed over centuries of dispersion and intermarriage with non-Jews.
Are the natives of the Holy Land today black? Why would Jesus be any different?

If the shroud of Turin is any indicator, he was brownish.
The shroud of Turin doesn't indicate his color of skin (it's a black-and-white photo negative).

Jesus was Hebrew (Middle Eastern). End of story!
Artists in different places/cultures always tend to portray Him as "one of their own."

Any claim that He was black, Aryan, or anything else is stupid propaganda for some racial agenda.
Socrates,

No, it doesn't indicate the color is his skin, but the structure of his body indicates that he was not white.
If in fact the shroud is true.

After looking around his blog, (I didn't even know he had a blog), I think his assertion that "Jesus is black" might be tounge-in-cheek. He notes in another post that he calls himself black, even though he's white. I think he's just saying, "more proof that Jesus isn't Jebediah Clinton from Oklahoma."

right. his actual appearance doesn't matter. In His Body (the Church) He is black, brown, white, red, yellow, bronze or whatever.
