Isaiah41:13
I think this goes here. I'm Catholic. I go to a college that is Presbyterian affiliated and 2 of my best friends here are Presbyterian and one's father is a Presbyterian minister. Ok. So, I know that we believe different things, and we often talk about the differences between the two religions. In the past 2 days, we've come across 2 big differences in faith. The first is Communion. I know that we believe different things about it. (Body and Blood of Christ and how we hold it in reverence is completely different than them). What do they think about Communion. She didn't understand why my dad, and Father Matt (at my church) told me that I could not recieve communion at a Presbyterian (or any other church that is not Catholic) because they don't believe the same things as us. She said that I believe in Jesus so I should be able to recieve communion. I tried to explain to her why I couldn't, but did not know how to fully explain it. My second question is something that her Religion professor told the class today. He said that Presbyterians and all Protestants believe that God loves them while Catholics only say "I love God." I've been going to a Catholic church my entire life and I have never heard this before. It was like she was implying that I, as a Catholic, do not believe that God loves us. Can anyone explain this??? Sorry for being long winded. It's been on my mind all day.
cmotherofpirl
Catholic Communion is the Body Blood Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Presbyterians have a piece of bread. Your taking commuinion in their church would mean you consider them equal, and they are not. I have never heard it said Catholics do not believe God loves us. Ever. Ask her where this fallacy comes from. It is certainly not true.
Isaiah41:13
Catholic Communion is the Body Blood Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Presbyterians have a piece of bread. Your taking commuinion in their church would mean you consider them equal, and they are not. I have never heard it said Catholics do not believe God loves us. Ever. Ask her where this fallacy comes from. It is certainly not true.
That's what I told her about Communion. She kind of understood where I was coming from and what I was telling her because her mother grew up Catholic and her Grandparents are Catholic. I told her that to me, communion at her church was a piece of bread in was not the Body Blood Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. As for her professor's comment that Catholics do not believe that God loves us, she said that was what he said and she told me and I was like I don't believe that. I believe that God loves us. cmotherofpirl
Her professor is mistaken. Tell her to ask for proof. Of course God loves us. "Love one another as I have loved you"
