Melchisedec
Well i obviously dont believe in the big bang theory.......but the idea that we evolved from apes doesnt seem to far fetched for me......is that bad?......what does that church teach?......i mainly ask because i dont really iknow anything about it....and i was hoping that some of you do...... thanks aloha
I'd suggest this site first http://www.talkorigins.org/ to get both angles on the evolution debate. Some christians do believe in a guided evolution so to speak. That evolution occured but through gods hand. The similarities between ape and human are astounding, aswell as the evidences we have for evolution. There is still much work left to do to find all the answers we seek. Whether we find them, is another story.
Oik
evolution is possible...just a bad idea. Why did we evolve? At what point did our soul come about? If evolution is true, then we are supposed to be a superspecies and forget about animals, cus we are obviously better than them.
cmotherofpirl
The bible is not a science book, nor porports to be one. It tells us why we were made, not how. I have no problems with the big bang theory as long as we remember God started it it all. Edited February 14, 2005 by cmotherofpirl
Guest Eremite
"For these reasons the Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter -- for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God. However this must be done in such a way that the reasons for both opinions, that is, those favorable and those unfavorable to evolution, be weighed and judged with the necessary seriousness, moderation and measure, and provided that all are prepared to submit to the judgment of the Church, to whom Christ has given the mission of interpreting authentically the Sacred Scriptures and of defending the dogmas of faithful. Some however rashly transgress this liberty of discussion, when they act as if the origin of the human body from preexisting and living matter were already completely certain and proved by the facts which have been discovered up to now and by reasoning on those facts, and as if there were nothing in the sources of divine revelation which demands the greatest moderation and caution in this question." rufiokicks
Wait, are you asking about evolution as in, species change or Darwin's Theory of Evolution? When I was taught about evolution my teacher put emphasis on the fact that evolution is just the changing of a species. That's something we can all agree on. We've gotten taller due to vitamins and better diets and our toes are much less prominent because they are used less. Darwin's Theory of Evolution though is different. I agree with cmotherofpirl. The Bible tells us why we were created, not necessarily how. The human race was created in 7 days, but what was considered a day 2000 years ago? Who knows, that verse could be a metaphor. Animals were created first. If animals evolve from other animals...what makes us so special? The Bible wasn't written at Creation, who knows? Oik
All the posts provide enough info for you. the big bang theory is underated and overated at the same time. Underated: It is assumed that there was just this thing that exploded and now going on in a linear fashion. Overated: Why couldn't have the explosion created the massive Black hole that is in the center of the universe. hence an explosion, but it is being sucked back into the hole, giving the illusion that the universe expands and contracts. Either way, evolution is dangerous in our current system because it is taught the answer to creation. the Church holds that you don't have to believe either way, though if Truth is revealed, we are not to deny it. In the instance of Evolution, one can, at the current time, point out all the holes in the explaination and show that the evidence is not sufficent to constitute it as Truth. mamasboy1210
Where in the bible does it say science is bad? Sure it could have happend. Science is how God works. He just adds some supernatural in our world too. There is nothing wrong with it. As long as we know there is a God and we know Christ teachings.
