theculturewarrior
Everybody has a right to a good name. That is Catholic doctrine. Sins against reputation are sins against the person maligned and against God. It's in the Catechism. That said, rejoice and be glad, if you are being persecuted as the prophets were before you. I honestly don't know what people think of me. I sense I'm disliked, but because with my psychological make-up, I vacillate between paranoia and naivity, I never know what's up.
BLAZEr
Yes, defamation, slander, and calumny are all sins. But it is not our job, when defamed, slandered, or calumnied to get worked up about it. Our response is to "endure wrongs patiently" like it says in the Spiritual Works of Mercy. But if "enduring wrongs patiently" means not defending yourself at all, even if you are harmed, it could potentially be one of those "heavy burdens laid on the backs of men". theculturewarrior
Isn't rebuking sinners also a spiritual work of mercy?
Donna
Dave, I pray the Holy Face of Jesus make the truth known, asap. Ask St. Theresa of Avila to help (I will, too). Keep your chin up, buddy.

Please show me what OT prophecy Dave would be fulfilling and how it is necessary for the gates of Heaven to be opened (or reopened). Bottom line: Please show me from the CCC that defending one's self against slander is a sin, because if it were, I'm sure it would be there, since it comments on multitudes of other sins.
