SevenSorrows
We're not doing World Youth Day... too pricey for us... we are doing our own mirror event in our hometown of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Love to collaborate somehow on an event somehow, though
for sure...maybe it will work out someday. how did you get hooked up on wyd? cause i have heard differnet things from different people.....from -"we had to get picked by the vatican" to -"bands don't get paid" to -"anyone can play as long as they get out there"
davefromcm
I can't speak to Germany but in Canada, all three are actually true... 1. We all had to go through an approval process that I believe did eventually end up at the Vatican before the artists could be decided upon 2. Bands don't get paid... in fact, Critical Mass had to get sponsored in order not to have to register... yes, not only are you not paid, you have pay the registration. The philosophy is that everyone is a pilgrim. The issue many artists had is that volunteers did not have to pay registration and surely the artists could at least be considered volunteers. This may be different in Germany but this was the case in Canada. 3. If you can get out there with a guitar, no one will stop you from performing. If you can get out there and want to stand on a stage, well if you decide to apply and have the resources to travel, you will be given due consideration. Trust me, playing WYD is not a glamour event. Most artists will tell you that it didn't do a great deal for their ministries in terms of sales and it killled some music ministries. We sold quite a number of CDs but we also outlayed quite a bit of cash. In the week we were there, we played on 8 occasions including on the big stages for the Papal Vigil and Papal Welcoming. Most people, to this day, do not know that it was Critical Mass on the stage. In fact, we didn't even get served a meal there. I guess what I am trying to say is that you are really serving the Church, and don't expect huge benefits for exposure. Of course, I will treasure the experience forever, despite all the hardships... after all, it was a pilgrimage. Dave
DemonSlayer
Well, it'll be disappointing not to see the band there.
