Ok you guys, I am soo excited! I get to go to mass for the first time on Monday! :D My awesome boyfriend is taking me before I have work/class in the morning. I've been wanting to go for quite a while now, and I can't wait to finally go. The only thing is, I have noo idea what to expect. I've been raised in a very traditional Lutheran church, so I've been told that I would feel very comfortable going to mass actually, and that just like, the setup and order of the service and things would have lots of similarities. Yet, I'm still a little nervous that...I dunno...that I'm not going to know whats going on or I'll do something stupid or whatever. I'm probably just being paranoid though... But anyways, I just wanted to share my excitement and say that this is the best Valentines Day gift that my boyfriend could ever give me  Hope yall have a great day and God bless!

cool. It's not that hard to follow along, don't worry.
The only mistake you could make would be to go up for Communion. I see it happen all the time when people bring their non-Catholic friends to Mass. Only baptized Catholics in a state of Grace can receive the Eucharist (not cause we're special, but just because being Catholic is proof that you should know that it is the actual Body and Blood of Christ, not a symbol). Protestants or people of other faiths or Catholics who have mortal sins on their soul should not receive.
What you can do is pray for a spiritual communion. There should be a prayer there at the Church.

Yeah, I'm glad I know about this one ahead of time too. What a terrible mistake that would be to make...but I can imagine it does happen often for those who visit and aren't used to it. But yeah, we only do closed communion at my church also, so I am aware of the significance of it. Thank you though for the warning ^_^ Very considerate of you. God bless.

well you can go up and get a blessing though! When it is time to go up for communion.. go and cross your arms over your chest and the priest will know not to give you communion but a blessing instead. Dont just sit there during communion get a blessing they are great. never pass up an oppourtunity to get blessed. :)

Erm, actually I think the GIRM advises against this (for those that aren't children anyway).

Communion is a time for Christ in the Euchrist...

You may find the liturgy is more traditional in your Lutheran Church. I don't knnow, I've never been to a Lutheran service. What's it like?

Just remember...Liturgy is good, but there is more to the Church than that. ^_^
