theculturewarrior
I've noticed that people who are really organized sometimes try to organize their friends, family, and coworkers. I mean, things just have to be a certain way, and they can't stand it if it's not. So what if I have dirty clothes strewn throughout my apartment? So what if I don't wear shoes to work? So what if I do everything a day late? I'm not letting anybody down. Let us poor slobs be.
Ash Wednesday
I'm somewhere in the middle. My ex was OCD. The poor guy even folded his dirty laundry. Thank God that didn't work out. I'm not a neat freak (unless I have time on my hands, which is almost never) -- but I reach a point where if things get too messy I go berserk and clean like crazy. Ash Wednesday
All right, I can say one thing about sloppiness and being messy. My boyfiend is messy and he leaves his clothes and stuff around and it really irritates me in particular when he's at my dad's house -- but if someone else lives there and you're not just living by yourself, to me you're completely disregarding everyone else, like you assume it's someone else's job to pick up after you. :irate: Gosh, I'm really crabby today. Wives, do you have to yell at your husbands a lot to pick up? Do you have to "train" men or what?

Guest Eremite
I'm fanatical about being organized. I suspect I have OCD, but I don't know. For example, I have a crucifix on the wall where I pray. If the horizontal part of the crucifix is not perfectly straight, I cannot pray. I also have to have a strict daily regiment. If I don't follow the same routine for morning prayer, for example, I feel like my whole day is off kilter, and I will be distracted in prayer for the rest of the day. theculturewarrior
just a thought, from a veritable messy guy... When I get married, I don't expect my wife will clean up after me...but then, I don't expect my children to survive the toddler stage. (They would drown in the toilet I forgot to let the lid down on, and possibly flush to boot! ) You know, I don't expect to get married at all! I think I'll be one of those crazy old men with three thousand pounds of raw venison four freezers, to feed to Prudence (my dead cat).

jgirl
Organization is my downfall... Luckily none of my other two roommates are neat either. Luckily we are clean, so we have sanitary bathrooms, but our kitchen table serves as a place to store library books, laptops, coats and winter accessories, etc. We have a saying: Hurricane Grad School hit the condo! Ash Wednesday
Bless your heart eremite. (hugs) You very well might be OCD, and it occurs in different degrees of severity. I had an OCD phase in college manifested in my eating -- an eating disorder but I had a very rigid schedule. I was able to overcome it but my ex was severe OCD at times. He said he would sit on his bed and couldn't read unless his arms/elbows were lined up with the seams of the comforter. His apartment was ALWAYS perfectly clean, everything was at right angles. His recyclables he would wash clean, fold the cans neatly and they would be nice and in order. That and a bevvy of other things -- tics, blinking rituals, etc. And probably had eating rituals because I'd finish my dinner and he would be maybe 1/2 way done at best. His scrupulosity also got to the point where he doesn't go to church now.
