Or can somebody list older songs in four part harmony that I can find and suggest? Any choir members out there? Or start a new thread of GOOD CHOIR MUSIC! disturbedxfairy
the pick of music wasn't bad at church. but the sound of choir wasn't it's best. the psalm was really long (which it usually is). the choir is usually really good but they just weren't sounding that great. the priest was singing the opening hymn and his voice would crack every now and then which i thought was funny. MC Just
Okay, my fiancee and I went to the Ash Wednesday mass at 7:00 at our parish and were both shocked by the music tonight. It wasn't horribly performed, it's just that the selection was downright awful. The intro hymn was pretty good and was out of the Lent section of the missalette, but the other music was downright horrible for Ash Wednesday. During the Offertory, they played (but didn't sing) 'On Eagle's Wings,' which is about as sappy and 'feel good' of a song as you can get. The communion hymn I can't honestly remember, but it was more about following Christ rather than a reflection on penitence. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the choir sang a song where just about to break out into clapping and it was way too cheery for Ash Wednesday. We've just about had enough of how bad the music has become here. Between this and them changing the response to the psalm to something totally not in the book and 30 words long, we've about had enough. And why can't they just use 'Lamb of God, ..., Lamb of God, ..., Lamb of God, grant us peace?' Instead, it's 'Jesus, Lamb of God, ..., Jesus, Bread of Life, ..., Jesus, king of hip-hop, ...' (okay, i was kidding about the hip-hop part). We're going to go the next pastoral council meeting and let our concerns be noted. We talked to the priest (associate pastor) who said the mass tonight and he only said to talk with the pastor. So did anyone else have poor music selection tonight?
welcome to my world. Bad music and liturgical abuses.
Well, at least my parish isn't as bad as the one in my fiancee's hometown. The priest there needs to be reprimanded. Instead of going to the tabernacle before communion and distributing the body into the ciboria, he let the EMOCs go over to the tabernacle and get 'refills' on their own. That and during the dismissal, he added 'ho ho ho' to the end of it since it was still in the Christmas season. He joked about it during his homily, but I was livid when he actually did it.
that's the song they played at my parents wedding. my mom gets teary-eyed each time she hears it i don't think it's so bad... it's just not really one of the Lenten hymns though besides, Lent is a time of sacrifice, and if that means sacrificing good music... SO BE IT!
