Well, now that they've pinned this, I'll have to admit, I disagree. The fewer pinned topics the better. They really have been abusing the pinned topics feature lately.

Abstinence from meat on the Fridays of Lent isn't binding in the UK. Catholics are supposed to abstain from meat on Fridays throughout the year, or make some other sacrifice if the bishops of their country have obtained permission for this. The US bishops say that one can substitute some other sacrifice for giving up meat on Fridays not in Lent. However, to the best of my knowledge, the UK bishops just say that some other sacrifice can be substituted for meat all year round.

I do believe those obligations only fall to the Roman Rite. I maybe wrong here, but I don't think I'm under any obligatoin, being from an Eastern right. Any clarification?

God bless,
Mikey

someone told me at school this

"we can eat meat on fridays now, my mom told me that the Catholic Church in the US said so."

then i said i didnt think that was right and he told me today

"ya man we can eat meat on Fridays, my mom asked Fr. ____ and he said ya"

can someone provide me with a document that shows that he is right or wrong?

Walking to Emmaus

I was just wondering whether the lenten fast is observed on Sundays. I have always been taught that it is not, because it is the day of the Lord's Resurrection so it should be a day of celebration not of fasting. This makes sense since we do not count Sunday as a part of the Lenten 40 days. Could anyone clarify this for me?

Mikey
