[quote name='Lil Red' date='Feb 8 2005, 01:08 PM'] Fasting means limiting oneself to one full meal on a given fast day.

Catholics who are eighteen years of age but not yet fifty-nine are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

On fast days, two additional smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength.  However, the two smaller meals together may not equal one full meal.

From my understanding, it is in the CCC that we cant eat meat on Fridays during lent and Ash wednesday.

But does it specify in the CCC about having only 1 meal a day, or additional 2 smaller meals on those fast days?

well there are two forms of fasting, on stated there, and bread water fasting, nothing but bread and water, but again you should take in consideration you fasting and not gorge yourself with bread and water

I have fasted for two years now, but I don't think I can full fast tomorrow. I am set to take a set of WYSE tests tomorrow morning and maybe early afternoon (really not sure). But I am going to need some food to be able to focus on those tests, they decide how we do or don't advance. But I am for sure full fast on Good Friday and at least a partial fast tomorrow.

So eating just plain bread and water definitely counts as fasting?
Even if its eating bread three times during the day?
Would it've been okay to eat non-plain bread, or has other stuff on it (e.g. butter, spread or coagulated milk)?

When I was a pup I was a skinny boy too. My dad used to say I'd have to run around in the shower to get wet. Now I've got a jelly belly.

My understanding of the Lenten fasts, and this comes from the Orthdox, who have a much stricter fast, which extends beyond just Good Friday and Ash Wednesday, is that the fast has no bearing on your weight. A lot of Orthodox gain weight during Lent. I'm not sure what the medicine behind it is.

I would definitely check with a Catholic medical doctor, if your health is a concern. If you have a medical reason not to fast, I wouldn't worry about it. That's perfectly licit. I fast on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, to mortify the flesh, but not to kill myself.
