track2004
I'm a teen, albeit an old one, and I think Phatmass has helped. I do have to admit though, that I like reading the more scandelous posts though because they are the things I deal with more. Most of the time I do learn a lot from what is discussed, though sometimes I get irritated with overly righteous people. I think that to have a real impact on people's real lives the phorum must discuss these issues because otherwise when these topics come up in our own real lives we will be unequiped to handle them. I see PM as a type of education. I come here and learn about the Church, and I also come here to learn how to deal with people and initiate good debates. The only really hard thing to say is whether or not PM or real life discussions have taught me more or whether it has been a combination that has taught me. zwergel88
^I've never bought Evian water, I prefer Aquafina myself, but no, I wouldn't have noticed that. Bottled water is good. I also, wouldn't buy water for two dollars a bottle, 24 bottles is like 8 dollars. Never buy Dasani water though, it's gross. I am a teen. Phatmass has made my faith stronger. Don't censor anything please.
mulls
it hasn't harmed my faith at all. haha. but honestly i've come to understand what the catholic church really teaches, as opposed to the anti-catholic propaganda. now at least when i disagree with the church, i disagree with what's real about it, not what's fake about it, and i do my share to clear up misconceptions among protestants. Carnanc
hmmm... overall it has helped me a great deal in my faith, aside from at times taking a way some time I could spend in prayer. As far as these topics go, phatmass does well to keep them in, because unlike other big forums, this one is small enough where if you stick arround long enough you will be able to find out who can give a good take on the Church's Teaching, wheras on a huge forum there can be such a wide variety of opinions claiming to be true teaching that it can be hard to sort out the truth. spathariossa
For example, when certain members post about their homosexual lifestyle, or when schismatics post about things harmful to the church, etc. My philosophy is to let these things get posted with the hope that the faithful Catholics on this board will sufficiently defend true church teaching. Another philosophy which has been suggested is to strictly monitor and eliminate these types of topics all together. My thought is that we shouldn't censor certain subjects because this world will not censor them when teens hit the real world. I allow most types of topics because I would prefer my teen (if I had a teen) be exposed to it here first, so that he/she will learn how to confront the issue later. But I could be totally wrong. I have no degrees with this type of stuff.
Of course it is!
toledo_jesus
Not harmful. Perhaps there should be an adult forum and a kid forum. Maybe even a teen forum. Password protected. Phatmass is a great resource for young and old, not to mention a place where I am sure I will find Catholics of like mind. hard to do where I live. cathqat
Hm. I'm old enough to be two teenagers, but I will contribute this: I think that many teens are exposed to all sorts of non-Catholic and even anti-Catholic ideas in the media, in their schools, among their friends and family, and even in their own parishes. I think it's safe to say that most of them are not experiencing heresy, schism, materialism, or whatever for the first time when they read posts here. But they do find positive and truly Catholic responses to these things here, and a kind of fellowship with other people who want to foster their faith, and they may not get that elsewhere. So I think a forum like this can be a very beneficial experience for them, even when we're discussing difficult issues, as they themselves attest. popestpiusx
I tend to think that things of a sexual nature should not be for public consumption. If they are to be addressed, they should be addressed in a seperate room, entered only with a password. Theissue is not whether the question is being appraoched from a Catholic standpoint, but whether teens should be learning this stuff from a website rather than from their parents. But just those couple of posts..YES..Just those posts dew to the fact that some people were acting as if the topic at hand, was ok and normal..That can be misleading for Teens..
