Fides_et_Ratio
So I'm probably merely only incredibly slow at recognizing this, however, in a debate about the Eucharist, it was mentioned to me that when Jesus is giving the bread of life discourse there is no bread present for him to say "this is my body"... so, upon closer inspection in my response I suddenly realized... In all the Last Supper accounts there are the words "THIS is my body":
Mat 26:26 "And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this(5124) is my body."

Mar 14:22 "And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this(5124) is my body."

Luk 22:19 "And he took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave unto them, saying, This(5124) is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
" (the strong's numbers indicate that the "this" is referring to a "thing") Now, in John 6, it is somewhat reversed... but there IS bread in the passage:
John 6:50 "This(3778) is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die."
(the "This" is referring to Jesus... i.e., Jesus is referring to Himself) Thus, without physical bread for them to see and Him to proclaim "THIS is my body", Jesus instead turns it around and points to Himself proclaiming "THIS is the bread" I can't believe I never saw that before. StColette
Yeppers peppers Reading the Bible will really bring forth a lot of things that are sometimes over looked, and you read it enough and you get really good with cross referencing like you just did

thessalonian
Awesome. A couple of other things to note: John 6 occurs at the passover (v. 6:4) 1 yr. before Matt 26 John 6 says my flesh is true food, my blood is true drink matt 26 says This is my body, this is my blood. In John 6 the betrayer is prophesied. In matt 26 he is revealed. Peter also has a prominent role, expressing his faith in both places. Also to go with what you are saying Jesus says in john 6 "The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world". Now who would doudt this is an allusion to the cross?
