Socrates
This is the offending post that got IronMonk suspended (in its entirety, excluding the quote from GF):
What is inappropriate is the way people are reacting to this. What is inappropriate is that this type of stuff be allow to posted on a "Catholic" message board.
I ran a search and Max had posted absolutely nothing derogatory, offensive, or contrary to forum rules on the forum. If I am wrong, Dust or a moderator can PM me, and I will say no more of this matter. However, it is clear to me that grotesque injustice has been done to IronMonk. An (unnamed) person has done far worse and not been banned. It appears penalties are handed out quite arbitrarily on this site.
spathariossa
"transgendered" (which is nothing more than ssa that wants a sex change - they're not in the wrong body) God Bless, Max aka ironmonk
Can't resist a parting snipe no matter how inaccurate can you? I don't want surgery, I have no sexual attractions much less same sex attractions. I'd be upset to see you go if your opinions weren't so ignorant. rufiokicks
I don't know if they're really fair grounds to suspend you on. The phatmass forum discusses abortion and sex and some might say that this isn't appropriate for children either. Suspension is a might much. Balthazor
Well you are not suspended now. So that is good. Personally I find your zeal a blessing. However there are quite a few younger phatmasses who have access to this board. I do not know what specifically you did to get suspended, but considering what you can say on this board and not be suspended it must have been abrasive to be charitable. Just remember there are probably more sins against charity than there are against chastity, we should be on guard against both. Your zeal is a gift, and it is wonderful that you want to fight for God. However Prudence is also a gift that should be excercised.
Good Friday
I can't believe I'm even badmouthed when I'm in no way involved with this, and when I have stated my intention not to come back to the phorum. But then again, I guess it's much easier to badmouth people who aren't here to defend themselves. Let me first say that I have been suspended multiple times. Ironmonk's pretend martyrdom is carp -- I have been suspended many more times than he has, and with far less drama when I'm finally allowed to return. I have also been suspended for doing far less than he does. He has gotten away with much more than I've been able to get away with, because he is "orthodox" and therefore he must be God. I have not been suspended lately, but you can ask dUSt and the moderators if I've been suspended multiple times, and they will tell you that I have. So get over it. Secondly, I was not the author of any of those threads on Open Mic that you folks are talking about, so how about not blaming me for their existence or for the resulting suspension of Ironmonk? First, I did not author the threads; secondly, [Edited by Kilroy the Ninja. Personal attack.]; third, I did not make Ironmonk address his concerns publicly, in the thread, rather than privately with dUSt and/or the moderators. For Catholics who believe in their own responsibility for their own sins, you people sure are quick to shove your mistakes off on someone else. Ironmonk was suspended because he acted like a jerk; I have been suspended before because I've acted like a jerk. Let's not act like someone forced us to be jerks, all right? And finally, if threads about adult issues are inappropriate for children -- maybe you should make a protected forum for adult issues, as has been requested multiple times. Meanwhile, as the administrator of the website himself posts a thread about how he has taken a year-long vow of celibacy within his marriage (which is not even permitted by Church law) and many people comment on that thread, in sexually suggestive language -- please, do not act like the homosexual and transgendered people on Phatmass are the only ones discussing adult issues publicly. It is not that the transgendered threads or the threads about Jon leaving Hyper were inappropriate for children, and you all know it -- it's that they were about homosexuality and transsexuality. Had they been about heterosexual sexuality, as many threads have in fact been, they would have been a-okay. Now, I really am leaving because I don't like the people who have invaded this phorum en masse. Say what you will about me, but Jesus won't want to hear how I forced you to commit your sins. God Conquers
I don't know what to think.... I don't want anyone to go. Especially not jas. Without Max and Nathan things could get boring around here. Stuff like that shouldn't be in Open Mic... it should've been moved. People have been suspended for less. dUSt decides, ironmonk is not God here, he is.
Lounge Daddy
i only wonder wonder if i want my kids to post here when they are old enough (in a few years or so) or not i really think if they stay in the "under 20" section and the arcade - its cool after all, because thats why those sections are there -- right? *** other than that... how did this site become a forum for threads on homosexuals and transgenders and trans-sexuals and cross- homo-phobics and homo-trans-the next things... ? i mean, really - is this such a big Catholic life issue that we need relentless posts about this ... seriously - you know i am not mean-spirited, and i worded this in the best way i know how tell me if i am wrong peace -- LD
toledo_jesus
It is not that the transgendered threads or the threads about Jon leaving Hyper were inappropriate for children, and you all know it -- it's that they were about homosexuality and transsexuality. Had they been about heterosexual sexuality, as many threads have in fact been, they would have been a-okay.
I think my suggestion of keeping an unusual personal issue private was a good one. It's a touchy subject, and one that children and adolescents are not adequately equipped to deal with. Presenting the subject with an air of legitimacy is a mistake. Church teaching is clear that homosexual activity is a no-no. Ambiguous behavior could serve to confuse and delude young people even if unintentionally presented as legitimate. You have to be careful. On the other hand, heterosexual activity is right and proper within marriage. Discussing this in a sensitive, general manner should be encouraged in the phorum or the Q&A section. More frank discussions can be had in the NFP, among adults. It is not to a person's credit to use sexually suggestive language in public, and this applies in the forums. The plain and simple truth is that heterosexuality is a-okay. Can't get around that fact. Legitimizing homosexual activity or the lifestyle is a fruitless endeavour on a Catholic forum. The parties could have commiserated over PM or e-mail, and that would have been much less annoying for everyone.
crusader1234
Phatmass goes through phases. For a while, everything was about the Passion. Then, everything was about Iraq. Then, everything was about abortion. Then things went onto economics. It looks like things are about to turn into being about Iran, but the fact of the matter is that people got bored. I honestly think that had this entire situation arose during last June, people would have said 'I hope you make good Catholic decisions and I'm praying for you' and moved on with it. Instead, everyone is bored and wants to fight fight fight. Everybody needs to take a breather and look at the debate table. Do you see any debates that interest you? Do you see any debates you can contribute to positively without bringing in personal issues? Can you contribute without getting angry and offensive? If the answers to ANY of these questions is no, I suggest that you go to Open Mic and post in a random thought thread because thats where unwarranted, personal thoughts belong (if anywhere).
