Paladin D
This saddens me. Everyone needs to take a deep breath and run to the nearest Starbucks. Edited February 8, 2005 by Paladin D

jasJis
THIS is what disturbs me. What's the deal here on this thread? Monk has some vaild points in what he says and how he says it, but so do people that take offense of how he says it. Can it not be that both sides are partly right and partly wrong? It is pointless and extremely counter-productive to continue to argue points that only total surrender from the other party seems to be the sole way of ending a disagreement. THIS is the poor judgement I see on phatmass all the time and why I cut way back on posting. It's not just mods, or dUSt, or Church Militant, or 'Hello, I do not rep the Church' people. It's all of us. dUSt and the mods have the inenviable job of trying to maintain civility here. I thought that Monk shouldn't have been suspended for the post he cited in the beginning, but IF (and thank God, I'm not) I were the web-master, I'd suspend Monk and a few others here for not letting it go. Sometimes we have to lose the battle and put faith in God winning the war. When we insist on winning the battle, we and many of those who we hope to win, lose the most than who we think we're trying to defeat. Voice your opinion, make it clear, and step back. You aren't going to convince the recalcitrant. Those who can be influenced or are open to the message can get it. When we get caught up bickering at nuances or not resolving anything for 8 pages, we lose sight of the entire meaning of the original thread. In my (hopefuly humble) opinion, this thread should have been closed after a couple of people voiced their opinion so we could all move on. If there are some serious aspects that weren't brought up, another thread could always be born. It's just like when my kids fight, and one or the other wants to get in the last lick but still expect the 'rent to come down on the other who 'started' the fight. They're unwilling to recognize that though they be in the right, they are escalating the problem and moving themselves to being wrong. Peace. Out. (back to lurking and praying for all of us)
