Im just curious of people still do that at confession.. or if it was just a pre Vat II think or what... I have never said that in a confession :blink:

I say it. I find that these improvised reconciliation rites are one of the most annoying all the newfangled abuses.

I haven't found a priest going by the books yet in my diocese...they rarely ask for an act of contrition!

I still say it just like that, followed by "it has been _____ (time) since my last confession" although only a few priests have given me a blessing.

just offhand...I think the blessing is optional. Man it's be nice though. The only time a priest ever offered me was an FSSP priest...and I cut him off out of force of habit.

BTW, I don't consider myself a latin masser...but confession with an FSSP priest is excellent...well in my case it was...because he actually judges your sins. It's medicine for scruples.
