Theologian in Training
I decided to pick it up the other day while at Barnes and Noble. Although I just started reading "The Magician's Nephew," I like it a lot, and am definitely intrigued on what is to come. I decided I would read light, very light, and even Lord of the Rings didn't suit that requirement. What do you guys think of the "Chronicles"? Kilroy the Ninja
It has been some time since I read TLTW&TW, like decades or something, so I'm looking forward to reading the whole series when I'm done with the books I'm reading now. As I recall, I cried.
marielapin
Theo, I would classify Naria as "light" - seeing as I read all of the series in about three weeks, without much effort. Tolkien is so deep, and when reading him there is not the obvious allegory that you find in Narnia. BTW, the Magician's Nephew is one of my favs from the series. Margarite
They are light alright, but they are very entertaining. I really liked the way it is narrated, it made it feel like the story was for me and really enjoyed how the narrator always explained everything as if I was a little kid. It brought some good memories. I just read the series along with my 12 year old daughter. My favorite was 'The Horse and His Boy', great message. cmotherofpirl
I think it is the best summer reading you can find. I re-read them every summer just for fun. Try reading them in order. Puddleglum for President.!
Catholic
I can't bother reading any fiction novels.
Kilroy the Ninja
That's a shame. Some real truths come from works of fiction. Although, truth IS stranger than fiction.
Theologian in Training
I can't bother reading any fiction novels. I thought so too, until I completely burned myself out on philosophy and theology. Sometimes it helps to read something lighter and in doing so taking ourselves a little bit lighter as well. Puddleglum for President.! That is exactly what I am doing...about to finish "The Magician's Nephew" and getting ready to move into "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe." Theologian in Training
Finished "The Magician's Nephew," started (the first page, at least), "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe." Now, the wardrobe adventure makes sense after reading "The Magician's Nephew." God Bless
theistgal
They SEEM light, and in one sense they are, as they're aimed at children and are very easy and fun to read. But there's a lot of depth to them too, as you'll see when you reach the final chapter of the final book. By the way, my absolute FAVORITE character in the entire series is Puddleglum from "The Silver Chair"!
Brother Adam
I haven't read them since junior high, although as I remember, I fell in love with the books and read them twice as fast as the rest of my class. Excellent books. I find in many ways I enjoy the LOTR's more, because of richness and deepness. You truly get lost in the world of the Hobbits. TempleofVesarius
They are very light reading. I got the whole series as a gift one Christmas when I was about 10-12, and I read all 7 books in a week and a half...I couldnt put them down
