melporcristo
For the Chapel Choir at my university (a Jesuit college) our retreat's Mass will be called Eucharist. That seems a little weird to me. And today there was a debate about non-Catholics recieving the Eucharist at retreats only because of the community setting and for communion, we would be in a circle and each give our partner communion. What is wrong with this picture? Was it wrong for me to put my foot down and say that isn't litergically correct? MichaelFilo
Raise hell, because if you don't then the Protestants will be drinking their own conemnation. Do not let the Eucharist be recieved by a non-believer, your duty to your God is first and foremost. I fully support your actions, and higher authorities in your Church should be notified, especially if they do not listen to you. It's people like you who keep the sanctity of the Sacraments. Thank God and may God bless you for the defense of the rightful partaking in Catholic communion, Mikey
thessalonian
Only in very rare circumstances such as one who is near death and is submissive to the truth, can a Protestant recieve with approval of the bishop. By all means raise hell. First with the priest (in a respectful way). I doudt you will have much luck but ask him about it (respectfully) and quote canon law from him. I have a quote of it in a link below that I will bring up here. If you get nowhere then write your bishop.
thessalonian
Here's what the 1983 Code of Canon Law Says: "If the danger of death is present or other grave necessity, in the judgment of the diocesan bishop or the conference of bishops, Catholic ministers may licitly administer these sacraments to other Christians who do not have full Communion with the Catholic Church, who cannot approach a minister of their own community and on their own ask for it, provided they manifest Catholic faith in these sacraments and are properly disposed" (CIC 844 § 4). jezic
well i wouldn't say raise hell, bury it But i do think they are correct in saying that it should not happen that way. I still don't wholly understand this. I asked about it on the apologetics forum you could look there, i don't remember the topic. I think it was called Eucharistic grace. cmotherofpirl
You are not allowed to give Communion to anyone either.
EcceNovaFacioOmni
You are not allowed to give Communion to anyone either.
Right on. EVen before I knew anything about liturgy, my "parish" did this and I could tell it was bogus.
Ellenita
It's hard enough explaining to protestants who come to Mass and want to receive without this sort of thing happening!
melporcristo
Thanks for the input everyone. Please pray for the girl I was arguing with most about this. We were arguing in a well manner but it was very tense. They ended up going with the "traditional" way of mass (aka the RIGHT way!!) and people were very upset. They argued that its tradition among the Jesuits to be more liberal and push the envelope. AHh .... I feel so frustrated going to this schooL!! jezic
i would say find a new one at first guess, but maybe you can bring about a change. It is sad to see a great order like the jesuits fall into a stereotype that they are more open to "new" things. I think that students at those universities really need to start standing up. i am sure many already do and i thank you for that. I am just surprised to find this in the one true church of Christ. JP2Iloveyou
I am glad to hear that you think it is a stereotype of the Jesuits that they are a liberal order. I understand that there are some Jesuits who are way to the left and they give the rest of the order a bad name, but the Jesuits I know personally are very solid, traditional, holy priests. It really is unfortunate that there are a few outspoken crazies there.
