justfran
I know it's not right to take someone's livelihood from them. What I have to ask is: You're a struggling author. The publisher pays you advances to write your book, so you can support yourself. The advance is negotiable (you don't have to pay it back out of your own pocket either, but it does get deducted from your royalties, so you know that the company is willling to lose money on your book. Apparently anyone who writes, produces, etc, anything, doesn't see any royalty unless their work is in that top 5% sales-wise.), so you figure the company people, although it has faith that your book will be successful (as it signed you up in the first place), would be smart enough not to sacrifice any of their necessities to pay you your advance (since they have to agree to it in the first place). It's not considered immmoral to do that for your living right (That's exactly what I want to do)? I mean the publishers lose money because they themselves were willing to take that risk... Pio Nono
JMJ 1/22 - St. Vincent justfran, Prima facie (on the face of it), it doesn't seem immoral. Yours, Pio Nono
