cathqat
Oh, come on. I've heard much crazier things in my life. I got a phone call once from a guy who claimed that he was God the Father incarnate and he wanted me to help him publicize himself. That's crazy. cmotherofpirl
I'm not so sure about that. The Irish government seem to be going really nazi recently. Banning all smoking in pubs and being generally lovey-duvey to the EU. I think I'd modify it to "Let the Irish run it - once they have had a few "
Well ya know thats why God invented alcohol? To keep the Irish from ruling the world!!!! kjvail
I used to support the Iraq war - I was listening to too much neo-con propoganda. I also used to be a mainstream conservative / libertarian. I've come to understand the fatal flaws of that idealogy. The primary problem I see is this dogmatic equation of freedom = democracy which is actually the exact opposite of the truth. Democracy = tyranny. From an idealogical standpoint if the US mission is to 'spread democracy' then I am wholly against it. From a purely practical standpoint what Bush proposed in his inaguration speech is a prescription for perpetual war. The US has been in a state of war for nearly 60 years now - war is the health of the state. During those 60 years government has grown at an unprecedented rate
Winchester
I shall address the assertion that we have no authority to be the world police without the UN. Authority does not come from the UN, but from God. If I see a someone being mugged, I do not have to go to the police; I can stop the mugging right then and there (morally). The UN, by supporting abortion and other evils has violated its position as badly as the US. Authority is not something which comes from a vote. Power comes from a vote, and frankly, voting takes too much time and money to be an effective tool in rapidly developing scenarios.
crusader1234
I'd suggest reading Pacem in Terris. It adresses the UN's place in the world.
SirMyztiq
I'm Catholic... I'm Irish (and Scottish, German, Jewish, and American Indian)... I want to be president of de world. First action would be to go to the Pope and ask him to have a council decide on the laws of the land. Second would be to give the Church power by council to remove any president and select a new president at anytime. Third and so on... outlaw pornography, make it illegal to lie about the Catholic Church (or any other church for that matter), help the homeless and poor (Halfway houses, schooling, etc...), fix the schools, etc.... God Bless, ironmonk
LOL Man, that sounds awfully familiar. Didn't that already happen? Yes, I remember. Corruption, greed, hate and intolerance where the daily news. You can't spread democracy. It has to develop. No country was ever given democracy and besides you don't give democracy to a country when half of the population is willing to kill you in order to keep the sanctity of their religious beliefs and ideals. popestpiusx
Yes, I remember. Corruption, greed, hate and intolerance where the daily news.
And now, in the largely democratic society today, the news is saturated with stories of integrity, selflessness, love, and tolerance (properly defined), right?
