jiyoung
i keep seeing pictures of different celebrities wearing rosaries around their necks like jewelry--usher, britney spears, lindsay lohan, etc. it kinda bugs me because i don't think they're even Catholic (britney spears for example--raised baptist, now dabbling in kabbalah..?). what do you guys think about this? i can only hope that Our Lady, knowing a good opportunity when she sees one, will use this as an invitation into their hearts... cathqat
Bono of U2 wears one that the Pope gave him when they were working together on third world debt relief during the Jubilee. In addition to showing respect for and solidarity with the Pope, and representing Bono's personal devotion to Jesus Christ, I think that Bono's rosary also expresses his desire for peace in Ireland. So I have absolutely no qualms about Bono wearing a rosary, even if he doesn't use it specifically to pray.
curtins
usher and britney spears--- hmmmm the thing is look at their actions and their music- and that shows a bit of what kinda people they are I think they might just be wearing it to look cool- but yeah maybe Mary can take it as an oportunity bono is cool though- hes irish!!! Adam S
Its the same thing with the crucifix - the Pope even went so far as to speak out about it. The cross i can just about stand, but last week i was at a bar and the woman serving me was wearing a really revealing top that said "Whore!" on it and in her cleavage was a crucifix clearly designed to draw attention to her breats, and i was furious. Shes using a representation of jesus in agony and suffering for our sins, in order to suggest shes willing to commit sin. When i mentioned it, my non-Christian mates couldnt see the problem. What a world eh?
XIX
Bono of U2 wears one that the Pope gave him when they were working together on third world debt relief during the Jubilee. He doesn't take the Rosary lightly but if you look at their new U2 DVD, he actually motions towards the Rosary he's wearing. "The girl with crimson nails has Jesus 'round her neck..." (from the Temple Bar mix of Vertigo) When he basically has Mary around his neck...though anything Marian is highly honorable to Jesus. And he specifically touches the crucifix...I'm confusing myself a bit. Like I said, he clearly doesn't take the Rosary lightly. Didn't the Pope wear Bono's sunglasses once? jiyoung
yeah i've heard bono isn't one of those people that just think it's pretty and wears it as only jewelry. but man...i was flipping channels and a girl wearing a rosary caught my eye. it was the howard stern show...trashy stuff. i'd bet she wasn't using it to represent the faith (especially since they were talking about lesbian experimenting. ahem...). but honestly...i mean usher's sitting there talking about how he's been with all these girls, wearing this (really beautiful) rosary. lindsay lohan looks like she lifted a rosary from a nun. britney spears has a plastic one on and she's running around doing all these, er, interesting things. i don't know...i hate seeing Our Lady demeaned like this. and yeah, same with the crucifix. i'm seeing it used commonly as jewelry. i heard of a guy who wears a HUGE one on his chest, and he was at a party getting drunk and high and he goes "better put Jesus away now" and tucked his crucifix into his shirt. that made me mad...i have so much respect for my miraculous medal and my scapular and such that if i'm in a state of mortal sin, i won't wear it (whether or not this is right...i just don't feel worthy). and yet these people...agh! but...eh, like Jesus said Himself, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. and...i'm not against wearing the rosary, because i know people wear rosary rings, bracelets, etc, and they wear it as a sign of their faith. it's when it's obviously worn as a piece of jewelry and nothing else that it ticks me off, because that's a sign of our faith and they're making a mockery of it. urgh. cathqat
Bono doesn't agree with the Catholic Church's opposition to contraception though.
Bono isn't Catholic at all! But he is a devout Christian, and he is not just wearing the rosary as a fashion trend, much less as a sign of disrespect. crusader1234
Melania Knauss is eschewing a boquet of flowers for a rosary in her wedding to Donald Trump. Edit: it turns out she's actually Catholic, and is apparently forcing him into marrying in a Catholic cermony?
