XIX
Okay first of all I'm having some serious misunderstandings about this whole Catholicism in politics thing. I voted for Bush in the election and even campaigned for him during the final weekend. I'm the furthest thing from anybody who would vote for somebody who is pro-abortion, but I'm having a handful of question marksregarding this... Firstly, voting for Bush seems to be a whole lot of "end jutifying the means" rhetoric. Simply put, how does the end of defeating Kerry justify the means of supporting a man who supports abortion in cases of rape and incest? And he endorsed Arlen Specter, a vehement pro-abort. How does one justify voting for him, without just using the end to justify? Secondly, is it really a grave sin to support Kerry? Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of what Bush is doing and wouldn't ever vote for Kerry, barring a drastic conversion away from my faith. But the Church never came out and said that we can not vote for pro-abortion candidates. Some bishops have, and so has Father Pavone. Beyond that, and the laypeople's interpretation of the Church, there really isn't anything definitive saying who to vote for. Now, I have read the voert's guide for serious Catholics. My question is, what is their basis for determining these specific guidelines for how to vote? Five non-negotiable...says who? The Pope? I really don't understand how they said that we have an obligation to vote for somebody who is electable. sigh...I have a feeling that rant was decidedly disjointed. Iacobus
Ha, I just wrote an email on the law of unintended results. I won't copy it here though bcause it isn't what you really wanted. http://www.usccb.org/faithfulcitizenship/b...pStatement.html That is the Bishops thing that the "5 NN's" are supposedbly based, I don't see it. XIX
It looks like they missed about 2 dozen "non-negotiables," as it were.
popestpiusx
Kerry is a worthless scumbag. I didn't vote for Bush either. Kerry doesn't even come close.
popestpiusx
What "2 dozen non-negotiables" are you referring to?
XIX
What "2 dozen non-negotiables" are you referring to?
At first glance, it seemed like out of every issue they discussed in there, they didn't really go out of their way to say that any one, or five, was particularly more important. I'm not inferring that some issues can't be more important than others, but I wasn't seeing the five non-negotiables either. That was kinda the jist of what I was trying to say.
