Hey, can anybody here tell me what the party line(church teaching) on creation is... and explain it too if you can..

-thx-
We must believe that God created the universe out of nothing.
We must believe that God created the earth and everything in it.
We must believe that God created a man called Adam and a woman called Eve.
We must believe that they were in union with God.
We must believe that they sinned, i.e. in the fall of man and that original sin was the result.

We are not bound to believe that the 7 days of creation has to be a literal seven days. Personally I believe that God could have done it all in seven days and made it look like it took billions of years but I am more inclined to believe that God didn't create the universe and the earth in a rush.

That is my understanding.

I believe that God arranged everything just so and then let it all fall into place over a few billion years, like a set of dominoes or a really great pool shot or Pee Wee Herman's house when he wakes up (from Pee Wee's Big Adventure). I find that much more impressive than 144 hours of creation.

I'm not sure if this answers your question, Jazz, but the Church teaches us in the Catechism that the world was created in a state of journeying, and that He intended for man to participate in the completion and perfection of Creation, and thus we are called to be "co-creators" with Him

with regards to how he created, we must hold that God created the world and all things "out of nothing." Thus, there was no eternally-existing matter from which He formed the earth, but rather, nothing existed until it was formed by Him.
