Big Pun

Any here like Pun? I never see his name tossed around in rap discussions. I think lyrically-if he were still alive, no other rapper on the billboards right now would even come close.

Ready for war Joe...

Big Pun reminded me of Biggie (aside from their looks, obviously). They were both excellent lyricists, but their lyrics were mostly garbage. They were known for tight rhymes, rather than saying anything of substance. I agree he would probably sell a lot of records today. Fat Joe is, and Pun was definitely a better lyricist than Fat Joe. Speaking of Fat Joe, anyone catch his verse on "New York"?"

I was just about to find God/
But now that Mase is back/
I think I'd much rather find a ******

I wonder if he's serious about being just about to find God, or just saying it in reference to Mase.

they aint refering to our God. They are refering to themselves. Fat Joe is a Hispanic Five Percenter... Most of these rappers when they mention God they arent talking about our God, most of them have been touched by the Nation of Islam sect saying that Man is God, in particular Black, Hispanic and Asian.

Are you sure Fat Joe is 5 percenter? Can you show me some article or interview where he said that?

Thanks and God Bless

from what i know Fat Joe belives in the same God we do....
I remember his old cd..."Jelouse Ones Still Envy" in the liner notes, he thanks God and says he knows he isnt righteous but one day wants to serve God fully.......
lol man blah blah blah

but I think Joe is cool....as far as that line about mase...thats just blasphemy...no way around that.....I THINK he was useing it to diss mase....by makeing the impression that Mase came back to the game for the wrong reasons......

I didn't think he was dissing Mase. I thought he was saying, "Look, even Mase is coming back to this environment, so I'll just continue on my merry own sinful way". This all goes back to the question of what is meant by Mase's comeback.

Cuban Link had a sentimental tribute to Big Pun after his death, "Flowers For the Dead". I like the hook on that track.

i agree with ya
were essentially saying the same thing
i take it as a diss to mase, since he's doubting his creditabilty
and he might be absolutely correct.........
but i agree with your statement.....
Im waiting to hear some new stuff from Mase
his last cd wasnt all that great...but he did somewhat esstablish a line.....
now with his next cd, he needs to start to attack the indiviguals on the other side of that line he is attempting to draw.......

BIG PUN
WATCHA GONNA DO

It's hard to explain how my squad can harbor the strain
of being the largest name in rap, since the almighty Kane
Acknowledge the fame, my call was to reign the streets
from Harlem to Queens, back to the Bronx who fathered the dream
Started this thing called rap, where I reign supreme, my team
Regardless of that, I've seen things as far as the crack
that'll make the hardest largest artist heart just collapse
I'm part of all that that's why it's so hard to go back
and start from scratch
I'm locked and I'm trapped, in a giant cage
Tryin to savor these few dyin days
I have left, to the form of flesh; should I lie in my grave?
I'm tryin to persuade, my motto is try to be brave
and not give death the satisfaction of seein me dyin afraid
That why I rise from the grave singin church songs like
I was Je-sus Christ pa-rum-pum-pum-pum

I remember the first time I heard that back in like 1999 I was like whoa-the way he flows it is so smooth. Pun was a great lyricist

I've listened to his music and most of the rap from NY. He's uses the "5%" lingo.
