Do you ever not like what your studying? I am a Theology major, but really new into it (like 2 quarters of it) and I talked with this guy who is a youth minister, about 25 yrs. old, and he told me today that if you have studied Catholicism for a while, you tend to get tired of it and he even "joked" about wanting to become Jewish because he doesn't like the "things that have happened" in the history of our faith. Is this usual?

Mel

I haven't experienced this problem. I began reading the Church Fathers in 1980, and if anything, with each passing year, my interest in theology has continued to grow.

I too have studied theology for many years, both formally and informally, and my love for it also grows.

But it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I have friends who are historians who just don't enjoy studying theological matters. They'd prefer to be reading genealogical microfilms all day, for example.

Each has his own vocation, I guess.

I, too, haven't tired of learning theology, though I've slowed down/pushed it off for a few years to learn good philosophy first. :)

If you tire of it, you're probably in the wrong field. ;)

I'll be a Theology major starting in the Fall of 2005, but I've been studying Theology informally for about 4 1/2 years now and I still haven't tired of it. Great field to be in if that's where you're meant to be.

thanks for the affirmations friends! this guy just really threw me off and I knew it could be his own spiritual battle so pray for him if you can. His name is Tim and he is affiliated with the LIFE TEEN program in Tacoma, WA. Mad props to him, but I hope all works out with the guy.

La la la LOVE

If ever you wanna talk about degrees and such, I'm up for it. I will probably be getting an S.T.D. or such from Roma. Possibly something even from Santa Croce. :)

History Major, theology minor here. Does that mean I like to look at Biblical genealogical microfilms all day?

Are you asking whether we encounter dissident Catholics, non-Catholics, non-Christians, or anti-Catholics?

For me, the answer is easily "yes" to all of the above. Frequently. I don't work in a Catholic school or apostolate, and hey, my whole family is non-Catholic! I find that the above groups are often the most fun people to discuss theology with, but I prefer doing it in person.

Of course there are people who dissent from the teaching of the Church both in every day life and even on Phatmass, but normally such dissent is based on an improperly formed conscience.

God bless,

Hey, I'm a Philosophy/Religion double major (school doesnt offer theology... :P ), but I'm planning on getting a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from one of the schools in Rome. I've been reading theology pretty harcore for about a year now (nothing compared to those guys ^ :D ) But I can say I still love it.

And Dairy, yes, very much so, I dont go to a catholic school, so I have discussions with people who dont agree with the Faith about every day. :(
