spathariossa
There's a new movie coming out about the crusades from the director of Gladiator. I'm not sure if that bodes well or not but they have maille armour and swords so that's a good step. No plate in sight! And the crusaders are good and noble knights and the good guys! Yay! spathariossa
Yeah as a Medieval Studies major I'm way sick of the pro-muslim slant and decidedly anti-catholic opinions formed by people on the crusades. In fact, reading about the Albigensian crusades right now I'm seeing a clear bias by the author against Catholicism. The reason for this I think is the increasing atheism of the academic community. They feel that this makes them impartial but in fact it gives them a very skewed view of medieval events. Not being able to understand the concept of absolute truth is a huge roadblock to understanding the crusades.

spathariossa
I would say a lot of dirty words after reading that article but that wouldn't be very Catholic of me. Grrrr. Grrr. Grrr. Grrrrr. Grrrr. Grrrr. So much for hope anyway. I'm so tired of this anti-catholic, anti-crusades, anti-warrior monk propaganda. Since when is defending pilgrims and cities from enemy attack an un-christian thing to do? Why is it okay for the muslims to conquer every territory from the Holy land to turkey to egypt, to north africa, to Spain but any counter-offensive is brutal and racist? All those places I just listed used to be Christian. Augustine lived in North Africa. This is nonsense. I'm glad the historians see it that way. Pope St Clement 1
 Trouble is film-makers and sensationalists have more influence than serious, reputable historians. We live in an age of lies. By the way, have you ever read Regine Pernoud's books "Those Terrible Middle Ages - Debunking the myths" and "Women In The Days of Cathedrals". cathqat
Trouble is film-makers and sensationalists have more influence than serious, reputable historians.
That's why we need more Catholic filmmakers, and especially scriptwriters! I sent my brother to Hollywood to become a screenwriter for this very reason. Listen up, teens: PLAN NOW TO STUDY SCREENWRITING. You are needed in Hollywood. There's a small but thriving Catholic community already there waiting for you. Pope St Clement 1
Good on you, Cathqat. And I didn't know there was a thriving Catholic community there, apart from Gibson & co.
cathqat
They're out there. My brother just started a chant liturgy group for their artistic community. They're working to make a dent, sure enough!
