rachael
I know how that is. I've had friends who would cuss a lot, especially the f-word, and I soon noticed taht when I was around them I'd cuss more freely -- including saying the f-word. spathariossa
Linguistically, swearing is a very interesting thing. All societies have taboo words used to express frustration. Eventually, these words lose their power and other words take their place. I don't think swear words are bad at all. I think the intent behind them is what makes them bad. The examples given are good ones. God is a wonderful word, it is just intent that makes it bad. Ass is a type of animal and is in and of itself not vile in any respect. It is the intent. Did you know that speaking of pigs was considered vile to muslims in Spain? Guard your intent, not your vocabulary.
Q the Ninja
That's an excellent point. Most of the time (or probably all of the time), when we cuss the objects of the exterior and interior acts of the will do not line up.
*lil girl 4 jesus*
That is what my mom told me, too. "Swearing is indicative of an intellect insufficient to express itself." My mom uses big words sometimes.
dude, i can tell!
