Have you ever been late to church?

I always feel *very weird* if I get to mass late. It never bothered me when I was a protestant--my church had a general order of service, but nothing like a set liturgy. Also, my old church was about 3x as big as my current one, so it was easier to "slip in".

But I get VERY STRESSED if I think I'm going to be late. I have to "beat" the priest in! (LOL!)

Also, if I am late to mass, I almost always forget to genuflect (and feel very guilty about it)! I think the stress of being late makes me forget, since it's not a lifelong habit.

[quote name='Norseman82' date='Dec 27 2004, 10:02 PM'] I've been late to mass. But keep in mind that it is not a mortal sin unless you miss the gospel (as well as two other parts, I believe it is the consecration and communion - maybe pne of the clergy or church scholars on the board could help me here).

no, it's not a mortal sin, but i think it's a matter of respect for the other worshipers, the priest, and of course, Jesus.

No, I do not think it is a mortal sin, especially considering you tried hard to get to Mass and the stupid subway conspired against you.

I was late to Mass just this week. I am home for Christmas break and they decided to change the Mass schedule while I was gone. I got there just as everyone was leaving.

Ash Wednesday

Have I ever been late to church? Don't ask. :wall:

I never skip out right after communion though -- unless I am involved in some church-related function directly after mass that involved some kind of preparation but that hasn't been the case in years.

I believe a priest told us once that it was disrespectful to the blessed sacrament in the tabernacle to leave before the priest has genuflected and left the altar.

So many people leave the church right after communion that Father gave a homily on it after a reading about perseverance for the Lord.

It bothered him so much that I wanted to volunteer to sit in front of the doors and not let anyone out.
