Brother Adam
Have you ever read the Catechism of the Catholic Church cover to cover? While I had read a goodly amount of it before my conversion, all those areas that I was concerned about with reconciliation to the Church, I've finally embarked on reading all of it, and want to finish before school starts on January 13. Of the 2865 paragraphs, I'm on paragraph number 1877 (Part 3, Chapter 2, Article 1). While it is LONG I think every Catholic should read it through at least once. I've been working on it for about 3 weeks now and hope to be done in two more weeks. If you read an hour a day (about 100 paragraphs) you can finish in a month. Benedict
If anyone wanted to give me a prize, I could finish the Catechism in a week. But I am reading a Bible study and a few other books while I am on break.
Carnanc
that is awesome, I would also like to sometime make it all the way through the bible.
journeyman
I skimmed it during RCIA - not really reading for content - but looking for conflict - I've gone back and read parts in more detail since, but never cover to cover. Last year's project was the Bible cover to cover - which probably isn't the way to do it - but I finished it in about six months - found some old memories, discovered some new concepts (or maybe new perspectives) - and had a real hard time with some of the duller books in the Pentateuch - my next project there is to work my way through the Psalms by themselves - for the "lyric" part of the Bible, I found it tough sledding . . . maybe I need to change translations
Benedict
John Martignoni (president of the Bible Christian Society, a Catholic apologetics group in Alabama) read through the whole Bible a few times. He started by reading one chapter of the New Testament every day. Then he went through the Old Testament. Before you knew it, he finished the Bible. Brother Adam
Hmm...I guess coming from a Fundamentalist backround, reading the Bible cover to cover isn't an unusual concept. It is actually encouraged that you read it through once a year.
shelly_freak
I actually need to get myself one...then I'd read it cover to cover. I'm actually attempting the same (I've read through most of it, but not the whole thing). I want to highlight that which I'm usually referencing the most so I don't have to keep memorizing paragraph numbers If you decide to be really ambitious, you should read Bishop Wuerl's The Teaching of Christ, it's a commentary on the Catechism (a good one). If you want, I can let you borrow it when I get to Steubenville in January (oy, I am not looking forward to being stuck in Steubie again! )
cmotherofpirl
I have read the entire Catechism, and Bishop Weurls book. If you are in the Pittsburgh area you can watch the Teachings of Christ every Sunday morning on KDKA TV.
