all i know is, i couldn't stand watching if my daughter were out there in a short skirt doing dances and flips that are so provocative...so, my girls will be taking karate classes...if i ever have girls. :)

Maybe.

It depends on the dance routines and the uniforms. The Dallas Cowboy's cheerleaders are noted to have the most seducing(?) uniforms in the NFL.

Um. . . I voted no. But, I might have a different perspective to offer here. I was in two national cheerleading competitions, was an All-Star cheerleader and currently a cheer coach at my old high school.

It really all depends on the coaching and the school rules.

Oh, and I wouldn't call the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders true cheerleaders. In fact, I wouldn't call just about any NFL Cheerleaders true cheerleaders.

It can be, but I find that the cheerleaders at my school are not as dirty as the "dance" team. Anyway, I don't like cheerleading anyway. It's not really a sport, and I don't like the kind of crowd that it caters too.

One of my co-workers, her two girls (ages 10 and 8) do competitive cheerleading with Cheer Time USA. She showed me some pictures from one of their competitions.. these people dress these girls in midriff-baring uniforms!! I couldn't believe it! Ten years old, and she's already showing off her belly button like it's "normal"! :o

Isn't it scary that that's on the more modest side of things?

I used to be a cheerleader..and it was just dances ..I mean come on look at those people that get naked for portraits..what about them?..it's not like the cheerleaders are taking their clothes off like strippers or something..And I see far worse things than the cheerleading dances..just the other day I saw two 9 year old little girls with MINI-SKIRTS and shirts that showed their belly button..blah what has the world come to

And besides elementry cheerleading and middle school cheerleading is kind of dumb..one word..PEDOFILES...highschool and college cheerleading I can understand..because you can get scholarships in h/s cheerleading to go to college, I mean who wouldn't pass up that chance to get your college paid off....so yea that's just my opinion -_-

They are on the more modest side of things, but many men would still be scandalized. I personally just find bellybuttons as "cute" and not much more, but other men...eh...

The tops were fine with the exception of the bellybuttons...I think the skirts were still a bit short, though...

There is a reason behind cheerleaders having short skirts. Think about olympic athletes and what they wear. Think of gymnastics, running, and swimming uniforms. The athletles need to be able to have maximum agility and not get caught up in clothing. For a cheerleading squad that is highly active in jumps, tumbling, and stunting getting caught up in your uniform can lead to serious injuries. . .seriously.

Skirts need to fit well (not be loose around the waist, but not be too tight), and though we don't want them to be too short, they need to be short enough to allow for that agility. The rule that many coaches use is "finger-tip level": With her arms straight down at her sides, the bottom of the skirt should be at her finger tips. Some girls have longer legs than others, so adjustments should be made, but it's a good rule of thumb (pardon the pun!) That's really not much shorter than the average pair of women's shorts.

But, if a squad is not active in jumps, tumbling and stunting, the skirts should definately be longer.
